Hi everyone,

So another challenge I have taken on, I recently bought a set of coaches from LS Models and now trying to fit lighting.

I was hoping that these coaches would be a similar set up to the WR Calanda Land dining car, the wiring being pre-fitted. With a bit change to AC wheels and modification, I was able to successfully install the lights (not to mention thanks to this forum as well).

I have just finished installing the lighting in a Roco SBB dining car and made it the power source, it will be distributing power via the current conducting couplers from Viessmann. My plan is to have 2 panorama and 2 Apm / Bpm coaches as a configuration.

Now, the instructions for the coaches mention they are ready for lighting installation. The only work to be done is adding the metal parts to the bogies. I have also changed the wheels to AC too.

After opening one of the coaches yesterday, there are no preinstalled wires and it seems like the interior is glued to the chassis.

Has anyone have the these coaches and figured out a way to install lighting?

The instructions say that the model is prepared for the installation of a LED circuit board. Electric pickup contacts for two rail operation are included.
The models in my possession include little metal wheel contacts in the little bag in the box.
I don't see any wiring included with the model. For AC operation, these would be used to provide ground/return. As you intend to power your coach lighting via current conducting couplers, you will have to run wires from the couplers inside the coach body and connect it to whichever light kit you decide to use.
LSM had announced digital lighting kits. I don't know if this has actually been released. I think some people had installed ESU lighting kits in their models.
At one point, it was advertised as being a product of Wekomm. I don't know if that company is still active as a LSM project.
Have you considered whether the Rapido Trains Easy Peasy Lighting Kits would work with these coaches? The battery powered system with wand is an interesting idea.

You can use lights from Train Tech. No wands are needed and the lights come on when the train starts and goes off after a few minutes when it stops. Battery can last upto a year depending on how often you run the coaches. You get no flicker and do not need any current conducting couplers. LS and Roco do not make the effort to supply coaches for three rail lighting without going to a lot of bother fixing sliders. LS did make a coach compolete with slider but it was not much use going over turnouts and then just fell off. Brawa do however make the effort and it is possible with what I have to attach their slider easily and it does work.
You can take the power from the loco and run it through the coaches with CC couplers which is quite good. Viessmann light strips are good.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hi Mike and David,

Those options look good, however I’m a bit hesitant about having to dismantle the coach every time I need to replace the battery.

If it was Piko or Marklin, I would be ok with it since the bodies are easily removed but this one likes to put a fight.

So few things, I found a small hole on each side of the coach where I can potentially feed wires through. I’m still trying to work out how the small brass parts sit in the bogey, the lovely drawing by LS Models isn’t the most helpful.

The next challenge I’ll have is trying to overcome the partitions and the clear part glued to the roof. Perhaps it needs seperate strips, which is a lot of work.

I have to admit, saying that this model is ready for lighting is a bit of a stretch. There is no thought put into this by the designer. I was at a low point last night, spending good money on a nice model, only to find out all these problems needing to be overcome.

One part of me wants to sell them and buy the equivalent ones from Marklin. If I had done this in the first place I wouldn’t have to spend so much time on this.

Here are some pics of the interior, be keen to hear your thoughts on a best way to proceed.IMG_5603.jpegIMG_5606.jpegIMG_5605.jpeg
