BR03 (37949) motor failing

Joined: 21/05/2004(UTC) Posts: 1,765 Location: Brisbane, Queensland		So I noticed my BR03 not moving the other day. Slight noise when applying throttle, as though it is trying to move. I tested the motor with 12v supply. Ran fine. There is no jamming etc on the drive train. Tested the decoder with the ESU decoder tester and lokprogrammer. Runs fine, smooth motor movement all through various speeds. Back together and tested the loco again, it moved a little bit at times, needs some assistance. Looks like the motor is failing. I haven't tried repairing these before, can anything be done or does it just need replacing?

Joined: 04/02/2011(UTC) Posts: 3,550 Location: Paris, France		Hi It appened to me that a loco was having all fonctions OK including sound but no movement I checked the motor and it ran fine (no noise, very smooth) BUT the impedance of the motor was around 10 Ω while other locos with similar type CAN motor were around 40 Ω So I changed the decoder AND the motor. The loco was a BR 58 37589 (2013) Long story short: the CAN motor may look this it is fine but it is ready to burn a decoder motor outputs So a 30€ motor change makes sense before frying a 100€ decoder Cheers Jean

If you did tested loco with analog power at 12Vdc and it runs fine then in case i guess your decoder have problem.

Joined: 09/08/2008(UTC) Posts: 1,916 Location: Auckland,		That looks remarkably like the motor from the br94 that Märklin had to replace for everyone under warranty. The grease was getting into the motor brushes and causing grief.
