I am replacing the old fashioned refractive LED lighting in my DR schurzwagens with the more modern and effective 73400 LED lighting. I consider the schurzwagens to be longer coaches and therefore am using two 73400s connected for each car. There is a plastic post at each end of the car interiors which gets in the way of the lighting installation. Since the interiors clamp to the base of the cars with plastic tabs, I see no point to the posts. Does anyone know why they are there? If I clip them will I be doing some sort of severe damage to the car functionality or to the retention of the interiors?

If you can use the sticky strips on the car roof's, or tacky dots? Are the white supports that come with ther led kits taller, or shorter than the ones inside the cars? I don't have these cars, but I do have the 2003 Rheingold/Helvetia sets with refractive lenzes, but these are not led's, but the smaller oval bulbs. I'm leaving them in.

A picture would be worth a thousand words at this point.
There is a lot of experience here on the forum and I bet we can figure it out, but we need to see the situation inside your coaches to get started.

I figured it out. First, I learned via measurement that all Schurzenwagens are not the same length. Mine were the Deutche Reichsbahn cars with the stylized eagle insignia that avoids showing the Hakenkreuz. The Mitropa cars are longer than the 1st/2nd/3rd class cars. Also, the posts are not in the way on all the passenger cars, just the 2/3 class cars. I also figured out that the posts were there to hold the old lighting in place. By moving the alignment of the LED lighting slightly off center, I can avoid the posts and install the Marklin lighting. If I use ESU LED lighting, there is no problem at all and its cheaper than the Marklin setup!

Great thread: I purchased the same series of coaches new along with the lighting kits available at the time and have always wondered about fitting the new LED lighting.
