Good day everyone.
I have had an MS2 for some years and was tired of walking back and forth around the set handicapped by the length of cable. So some months ago I got a MS WLAN and the supposed corresponding Track box.
MS2 connected and WLAN connected (slave) as shown in the manual. The most I get on the WLAN is "data transfer act". No locos are showing up, despite the MS2 being the Master and the WLAN the effective 'slave'. What am I doing wrong.
Some suggestions please?
regards ' M

regards ' M This sounds like you need to update your original ms2 to the current software revision. IIRC it needs to be 3.148 or later to use the MS-WLAN. Once you have updated the ms2 let it update the original trackbox, and then you should be able to use your new acquisition.

Thanks KiwiAlan,
it is most annoying when you order something nowadays and it is all dependent on everything connected having the latest software. From my understanding, the only way I can upgrade my MS2 software is through a CS. And the nearest person with one of these is over 200km away.
Oh well, back to the long cord for a while.
regards
M

Hello Aussie Mark, When I recently purchased an MS2 that needed an upgrade (for whatever reason it was stuck in German and would not change to English via the menus) I sent it to MKN (https://mkn-digital-train-repairs.com/) and they did it for me (for a fee). As I was in Melbourne and I don't know of anyone here that can help me, it was expedient for me to take this route. Cheers Aussie Susan (PS: @KiwiAlan - I'm originally a Kiwi as well!!!)

Had the same MS2 "stuck in German" problem. Upgraded for postage only cost to version 4.1 by Nathans Trains. Have found Noel, the dealer in QLD, to be very helpful and reasonable with any Marklin issues I have had.
PS. Just out of technical curiosity (I love a good challenge) I wonder if you could capture the CS update stream and replicate it on an Arduino or similar pumping it from an SD card ...

I had a similar thought. When I got the MS2 back, I actually used a CAN sniffer (basically an MCP2551 chip connected to an ESP32 and plugged into the 2nd port on the track box) and recorded the CAN messages while it updated the track box. Therefore I would have though it possible to do the same thing while the MS2 was being updated. Anyone got the time/knowledge/skill/inclination to give it a go? Susan

Susan Hi again Susan, Seems that you're halfway there already ... you might as well keep going ... working on the CAN side should be much easier. BTW, if you haven't already seen it, there's also a good CAN document on the Stefan Krauss site - I have a good English translation of that too. Assume you noticed the later release of the sniffer stuff in this post ... works better with dual MS2s. Cheers, revmox.

Thanks Aussie Susan,
I think I will send it off to MKN Digital in Bowral and see what they can do. Failing that, I will ask someone in the "Marklin Modellers of Sydney" to do an update. Annoying just the same.
Take care.

Hi Mark, David has died, so contact mkn before sending any items. The web site is still up. Originally Posted by: Aussie Mark Thanks Aussie Susan,

Another possibility to update it would be to send it to Nathans Trains in Brisbane. Oh, so your another kiwi that has moved to Oz. We have friends in Bundaberg that did that.

Hello Ross,
thank you for that information. I feel such a fool for not realising. I saw some emails some weeks ago from the "Marklin Modellers of Sydney" mentioning a member by the name of David who had died. But from memory I think the funeral was on the Central Coast, so I didn't put the facts together. Gosh, that is sad, as he had such a wealth of Marklin information.
Regards
Mark
