Hi I have a MSD art nr 60965 sound decoder, about 10 years old, is it possible to put in a new sound to this decoder ? I did it 10 years ago, but back then , if i remember correct, you went to maerklin website and down loaded a sound to a usb stick, and then you took that usb stick ant put it in to the cs2, and uploaded the sound to the locomotive on the the track ?

Some early sound decoders from ESU Loksound were installed on some Marklin models in the late 90's and early 2000's. The only sound function was a horn, or whistle. Some have pin connectors between the motor decoder, some don't. If your's has the 21 pin connector, you may be able to exchange it with a new mfx smd decoder. if you did one before, without pin connections, then you know how to resolder the wiring.
The new smds decoders come with or without sound files already loaded for steam, diesel, or an electric. Or the dealer can custom load a sound file. Not sure if you can still do it the old way, or you need a decoder programmer tool.
I have the BR 120 with the old Loksound lame dull horn. I'm not willing to tackle an upgrade. I have newer Loks with great sounds.

Hi
Märklin has a mDecoderTool3 (free software to be downloaded at https://www.maerklin.de/de/servi...d3msd3/mdecodertool-mdt3 to program decoders either using a CS2 or CS3 or a LokProgramer 60971 (USB decice that plugs on ,your computer)
Software and users manual may be downloaded here mDT3
When running the mDT3, it will propose you to download the "SoundBlibliotek" that you may use.
From now on you may EITHER load Märklin prepared sound projects (you give the ref number of an existing sound loco) OR you create your own sound project (a bit more tricky).

In all cases, YOU MUST indicate the motor type CV52
See the manual here PAGE 38

Keep up with the play Jean, that combination will only deal with msd/3 and mdt/3 decoders. The problem is he has an older decoder, and I don't believe there are sound files available for them, let alone a programmer.
