Hello All,

I am trying to design a new layout (2,5 m x 1,5 m) for my grandchildren and me and it is very difficult without the tracks dimensions and a tool to draw it.
Could you help me on how to proceed?

For example, I have Gebogenes 5100 tracks when sometimes I need a 5206 (which I do not have, just bought 2) so tracks do not connect properly.

Thank you all in advance; I still work daily but coming back home and think on this project is the best hobby ever.

Pablo

Hi!

Wintrack knows the dimensions. Without buying Wintrack, you can create layouts, but cannot save them.
I used it a long time without saving before I finally bought it.

You can save screenshots of the layouts while in free mode.

There are other track planning programs, but Wintrack is the only one I ever worked with.
Regards
Tom

Hello Pablo,
You will get used to the geometry of the M Track and then it ceases to be so strange.

For example - the inner radius points (turnouts) incorporate a full inner radius curve. So to straighten up and have parallel lines you can use a standard inner radius curve (5100). However the outer radius points (52xx) have a shortened outer radius curve. So to straighten up and have parallel lines you can't use a standard outer radius curve, you have to use the shorter one hence your need for the 5206. Once you get used to this sort of thing it all gets easier.
It's a good plan to build up a good supply of all the various short track sections (straight and curved) as these make filling in gaps a lot easier.

There are various software programmes that allow you to create plans. Most are for Windows based PCs but if you use Apple then Railmodeller is good. I use the full paid version "Railmodeller Pro" but there is a free version "Railmodeller Express" although I don't know what the limitations are - I think it has a limitation on the number of track pieces used in a design. It contains the full range of Märklin M track pieces and is quite easy to use once you get the hang of it. It is available on the App Store.

As I say there are more Windows based ones available but I am not familiar with them - I guess they are all similar.
Just playing around with one of these programmes enables you to experiment and learn what fits and what doesn't. Recreating some of the plans from Märklins track plan books is quite fun and a good way of learning the software and learning how the geometry of the track works.

Good luck with your hobby and remember it's all about having fun.

Marklin HO using M track. Now reverted to analogue as I find it has more character and is more fun...... and I understand it!

If you are just trying to make a simple layout with M track I would grab an old track planner book and go from there. The books provide a list of all track required and give schematics of wiring and power supply requirements. Two venerable Marklin track planning books are Marklin 0390 "HO Gleis Anlagen fur M Gleise 5100, 5200" and Marklin 0700 "Marklin HO Gleisanlagen" Page 5-8 of the 0700 shows all the geometries of the tracks and both show switch combinations and their resulting spacing between tracks. 0700 has the additional feature of showing the trackplans in M and K track. Have fun!

Thank you very much.
I will explore this alternative too.
i will make something simple and start enjoying; in the meanwile I will study what is necessary to plan more complex layouts

Sorry to be so late.
I use and advice SCARM, for Windows.
It is free to use, up to a number of items (e.g. tracks+signals+buildings).
My trick to bridge that limit is splitting the design of the circuit.
