I've pre-ordered both the new car-set and the locomotive. On the web-page they also recommend the 43369 SBB car-set to go with the locomotive. Has this been a prototypical consist? |

Has this been a prototypical consist? As this locomotive must have been preserved by a Swiss association, it must certainly pull this type of coaches today. When I saw these 141Rs pass behind the schoolyard, it was to pull long freight trains. This was a multi-purpose locomotive designed in USA. The locomotive has pulled every kind of cars and coaches available in the SNCF at the time. From old three axle coaches in the beginning to "modern" silver coaches of the "Mistral" train, and also the famous CIWL coaches of the "Train Bleu"... Best Regards Joël |

Found This: https://www.patrimoine-ferroviaire.fr/sncf-vapeur-141-r-1244/where we talk about the livery currently applied on the restored prototype: "the livery of the machine is not very respectful of History, the white tires having only appeared at the end of the life of the 141-R and for only a few examples, and the connecting rods having never been painted red. We can also call it a manifest error to have equipped the machine with a two-tone whistle, which makes no sense on this series which was never equipped in this way..."So Märklin may have chosen the current livery, although since 1947 the locomotive has had to change colors and equipments perhaps several times. But what a lovely locomotive ! Best Regards Joël |

Those dreadful, toy-like "light steel" coaches for domestic service are supposed to represent era 3 (approx. 1945 till 1970 in Switzerland). During those years, the SNCF loco 141 R 1244 was not yet present in this country.

Prototype: 3 four-axle pass, the so-called "Schürzenwagen" / "Skirted Passenger Cars" from the prewar period. Several of these cars remained after World War II in France and entered SNCF ownership in this manner. This group of cars has a bottle green basic paint scheme corresponding to the way the cars looked in Era IV at the start of the Seventies.

The smoke generator synchronized are expensive and sensible. They are not good quality and there sit a small motor with fan that must start blow synchronized every step time of the wheels turn around. Small things are sensible and broke easy. |

I think Goofy means sensitive, not sensible. On the Stummi forums someone stated that there was not enough room for the synchronized smoke unit. Who knows? At some level, pricing must also become an issue. These surprise models already exceed the prices many will pay for a locomotive. |

Thanks for the review and pictures Shannon. I have been so busy that I had not seen this year's surprise loco until yesterday. My Northlander is out for delivery today and I was definitely going to wait a while to buy another loco. But I love this model. It is gorgeous and it would make a nice mate to my SNCF 241. It is also a tie-in with my other US locos, having been manufactured in North America. I may need to break my promise to myself to not buy another loco for a while. |
Regards,
Jim
I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time. |

Hi Jim It is definitely worth buying. I have a friend being the enthusiast of Roco and ESU, but he also admits this loc surpasses his expecting better than Roco. Wish you get this model soon.
