hello,

Can't Rocu and Marklin wagons, which have metal wheels, be used on two-line rails? Does it make a short-circuit ?

thanks

Roco wagons and coaches with DC 2 rail wheels will not short on either system, but they will not activate contact track section blocks on a 3 rail system. 3 rail wheel sets will short a two rail system because one wheel isn't insulated from the axle. Wheel sets are usually interchangable for both. You must consider interior coach lighting before doing so.

The answer above is correct but not complete. The main difference between wheels for two rail and three rail systems is that the two rail wheels have to be electrically isolated while the three rail wheels are not. So a three rail wheel set on a two rail system will allow electricity to flow from one rail to the other and short out the power. A two rail wheel set unless modified on a three rail system will not allow electricity to flow from one rail to the other and fail to activate any system that uses that such as a signal, contact track, gate, etc. It is possible to modify two rail wheel sets to allow electricity to flow across.
