Joes Modellbahnlaedle is offering a SNCF 241-A (39241) for a collector's price. I have no clue what this model is actually worth, but they are in high demand

Hi Mike
The reference is 39241 and not 39421.
This being said, to sell this beauty for 2,000€ when the price was 590€ is not really a bargain to say the least.
I know the feeling of those who missed it as I ordered mine 3 days after the public announcement in German by Märklin. I placed the order to MSL (in September 2017 and they finally told me it was "vorbei" (gone) around April 2018. I felt betrayed by the nasty games some distributors played because at the same time the same model was sold in Feb / March 2018 anywhere between 1000€ and 2000€ on ebay.

Anyways I was ready to give up when my Son said to me: come and see here I think this is the loco you are looking for and indeed it was almost. It was a Trix 22941 on sale for 590€ at a shop 800m away from my home. I converted it into 3 rails.
Here it is pulling the Lorelei set when the Edelweis was not available yet.

A fantastic runner, very silent leaving the room for real sound (except the stupid US whisle that Märklin fitted it with).

So in short, wonderfull loco especially when pulling the Edelweiss set but no I make a principle no to give money to gross speculators.
Cheers
Jean

Wow! Now that is a price to be noticed and surprisingly high.

On the other hand mine is simply the prettiest, most impressive steamer that I own, and I have many fine ones.

So I guess if you want one you might just have to pay up, since only the lucky among us got one from the first go around.
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.

Wanting 2000 for an item which was around 550 is robbery. I will never buy from any sites that are prepared to over charge knowing somebody will be prepared to accept such an offer to buy.
We appear to be keeping our hobby going with people who have more money than sense.
Apologies to anybody who is prepared to buy but that is just my view.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Perhaps I am not looking at the right item or then the dealer's page isn't updated, but this price seems to be in the region of the original price:

EDIT: Oops, it seems to be a different item number, sorry. All this China-made stuff looks nearly identical in my eyes...

Joes Modellbahnladen seems to have a number of items for sale at ridiculous prices.

There is the 241 already mentioned, then there is a Tintin & Struppi at something like 2500, and a Maus loco along with a coach set also at some horrendous price (they had one of these in an email auction recently, this may be the same one), along with some other items at what seemed to be stratospheric prices. I suspect he has been asked to dispose of an estate, and the estate has overly optimistic ideas of the values.

I have the 39241 which I bought used for closer to the original price and love it. One of my favorite locos and it gets raves by most people who see it. Great sound and runs well.

Joe tries to sell these model for quite some time. I wonder how how he comes to the conclusion that 10-15 year old models are sold as new. Watch the items and you will see that the prices drop after some time.

Some days ago he wanted about 700,-€ for a NSB 37463, now 477,- €.

I suspect they are shelf queens, probably never been run, possibly never been out of their boxes.

I would accept new when never out of the shop but I suppose theses models came back from customers who might have passed away. The model therefore is second hand.

I suspect that these may be either stock from a shop that was liquidated or goods that were found at the warehouse and Joe's managed to get their hands on them. They are not advertised as second hand so I presume that they are what many shops call "Old Stock" or "Warehouse Finds"

This happens more often than you might think, I was after a BR 065 (39651) a while back and they were sold out everywhere, my dealer tried and tried to get me one. Then four weeks ago, he messaged me they were having a clear out and they found one in a box that was for another order that was cancelled at the last minute and he asked if I was still interested.

Don't look back, your not heading that way.

New for me is factory delivered, not found when clearing another shop. One should ask Märklin about warranty. I doubt that warranty will be given by Märklin to itmes 5-15 year out of the catalogue. Anyway if you find something in his shop that is on the wishlist, buy it. Quick delivery. Nothing that worries me. I know which of the items I would not buy.
I just don't like the way he presents old stuff.

There is a dealer in America who often sends out emails about old items that were made available to him from the warehouse. When he acquires models from collectors, he specifies this and when it comes from the warehouse, he mentions that he was informed by the company that such and such model is available and asks his customers to place orders (first come first served) on those items. It can happen quite often that a box/pallet is misplaced and then turns up during an inventory or other work and is then put back in inventory and made available. I don't know if this happens also in Germany but the first one who notices and acts on it usually gets to profit from incidents like this.

"New" can mean just released from factory, but it also means anything that has not been used or not previously been sold.
