I had a look at the reverse unit inside the tender and it also has some electronics next to it.

I run an old style ac analogue track and I think this 3310 is digital. The loco runs on the track but the lights do not work.

I have seen info online that says you can get the lights to work but I would like to leave the loco in its original state and not interfere with the wiring.

Can anyone please confirm my thinking or correct it.

Cheers Owen

The original 3310 is analogue, but maybe yours is not original.

Some Märklin locos use lightbulbs for 3 V or so. If someone installed the regular 19 V light bulbs, there may be no visible light.
Maybe light bulbs are burnt out.

Tom

Hello Owen,

In principle a 33.. lok is analog but with an electronic circuit that eliminates the occasional jump of the lok when reversing.
I think that when there is still a relais inside this lok is original.

For the lighting I would seek the problem first in a defect or wrong lightbulb or a broken wire but maybe there is something wrong with the electronics.

Here a link to the drawing and partnr. list.

Succes with trouble shooting, Tony.

Hellow Owen
The 3310 loco you have is analogue with electronic relay.
In your case it is a combination of a standard Märklin relay with a "Vorwahlelektronik". This means that:
- the jump by over-voltage is suppressed
- no more light flash by over-voltage but a constant light over a wide range of speeds

Because of this the lamp voltage is reduced (otherwise it won't light up) but I could not find the info except on Stummi-forum where they say it is a 1.5 V lamp. (so a regular Märklin lamp won't light-up).
Maybe you can measure the voltage (AC position on Multimeter) that powers your bulb. (5V?, 12 V?)
Cheers
Jean

Thanks for the info.
It made me think more about connections and then remembered it is probably the same as my 3356 Lok with 1.8V bulbs.
So checked the bulbs and looked for loose connections etc. Found the bulbs were ok but the connections were loose.
All good now..
Thanks to the forum again for pointing me in the right direction.

Just a note : I have found a reasonable way of keeping my tracks clean from the dirt that accumulates. I use a smooth small block of wood and wrap a clean cloth around it then just rub the track. It does not catch on the track joins or center rail and does not take much time at all.
You would believe how much dirt comes off the track in such a short time

Cheers Owen

Over oiling is the main cause of dirty rails.
