Every year the same interrogation, so : when can we expect to know what will be the Insider model 1 2024 ?

Mmmmmmm
There is a VT18-16 being restored right now, Marklin shared that info in their social media, perhaps they are involved in some way . It would be a super nice model to be released sometime in the next couple of years.

Given 2024 will mark 165 years of Maerklin, I’m sure there will be a few special models produced. Let’s not forget 2025, though: 90 years of Maerklin HO… should be interesting.

It's possible that The Insider Modell it's not launched in this week... maybe mid/end of november

I have heard an unsubstantiated rumour as to what it is.
If the rumour is correct, it will be an item I will need to consider.
I believe it it will have a yellow colour, along with another colour, and be based on a previous Insider model.

Are you thinking the other color is blue and the item is the Northland?

Well Mother M released a new model of the TEE Ram a few years ago so a model of the Northlander based on the new Ram makes sense.

Maybe yes, maybe no.
They always mention the Northlander when they advertise Märklin locos as an investment. If the new Northlander lets the price of the old unit implode, they will need another example for their investment story.

I think the new Northlander is the third H0 model to break the €1000 barrier and the first Insider model that does so. Folks with a good dealer will get it for less than €1000 though.

Tom

It looks like a beautiful model. Although I have until 29 February 2024 to decide, it may be too much for me.

I like it a lot, but with that price and without dynamic smoke I will probably be out.

Nigh on 1100 € (1099 €).

Assuming a 6% discount and no VAT, it's still $1600 here plus P&P.

The 39706 was 900€ RRP in 2019.

From the description there it sounds like Marklin could make a whole series of liveries for that model, to cover most of NA.

So far, the Siemens Trainsets are in testing in Canada (VIA), in Florida (Brightline) and on selected Amtrak operations.
AFAIK the Amtrak Midwest operations do not largely consist of trainsets with pilot coach (other than the planned "Hiawatha").

The eventual use of these trainsets for the Adirondack should bring the Amtrak ones to my neck of the woods. I like the look of the VIA consists.
I'm sure this could be a good model for one of the European companies seeking a North American model with potential upsides.

The price is high, just compare it to the Ram Insider that was 900€ and was already expensive very few years ago. I can understand that
the Northlander is a desirable item, the demand will be high and price naturally is higher than normal. The item can increase price after it is completely sold out and
that will turn out to be a good investment.
If, few years from now, Märklin will decide to produce exactly the same item but with dynamic smoke, the value of the currently announced product
may significantly fall. This is why I think for this type of items, Märklin should use the full features set.
At the moment I am undecided for the Northlander, but if I go for it, I will not think in it as an investment. Instead it will be just for the pleasure of enjoy it.

My problem is: How many Northlanders do I need? I think there are two or three versions and I have all of them, including a pristine 3150. A few years ago a stand alone F7 was also produced for the US market as well.

What to do?

The question is: Do you have the Northlanders you want?

You can buy the new one with correct length and digital sound.
Or be content with the old analogue one you already have. That model is a legend.

Or maybe keep the old one for value and use the new one for fun.

Or sell the old one to get money for the new one.

So many options.

Tom

None, thank you. I would prefer that new development funds be spent on some of the prototypes that Marklin have ignored.

The Insider Northlander is a must for me. It will be my first Northlander, and as Tom says, this one comes with the correct scale and modern digital sounds. ThumpUp

It seems like a descendant of the VT 11.5 that I love so much, and I am hoping for a new model with that old time Marklin heavy metal vibe.

It is strange because I did not like it enough as a RAm TEE to buy one, but as the Northlander it is perfect.

I haven't ordered it yet, but I know that I will.
Regards,
Jim

I have almost all Märklin and mostly HO, although I do have a small number of Z gauge trains!
So many trains and so little time.
