I'm using C-track, with Marklin point motors and decoders. If I have a crossover (or two related points), can I give the two decoders the same address, and switch both at the same time? I'm using a MS2 if that's of any use.

Yes but you may find it is better to give them separate addresses. But it does work.

Hi Dave It is true that using a MS2, it may make sense to have the same address for both switches (not easy to make with M83 though unless wiring the 2 motors on the same M83 output). Many of us start with a simplified control station (MS2) and later use a CS3. With a CS3 it makes sense to use separate addresses for each device. Just a matter of personal choice. Cheers Jean |

Having two addresses gives you greater flexibility. You can have one open and one closed or both open or both closed. The same address only allows both open or both closed. So you have cut your options in half.

Hi Dave I have C-track crossovers on my layout and I set both decoders' DIP switches to the same address. Like you I also control my layout with a MS2 and have had no problems with this arrangement at all. It is much more convenient to operate a crossover with just one key press rather than selecting and switching each turnout separately. Coincidently, I asked this very same question when I first joined the Forum as I was concerned with the current draw of two decoders and two point motors being activated simultaneously. In fact, it was the reason I joined. I continue to learn so much from our amazingly knowledgeable members. Edited by user 27 November 2023 15:11:30(UTC)

Excellent Bogenschutze. Whilst not using them for a crossover as such (single track chappie me :-) ), they are where they must both be normal or reversed. Thank you.

Point decoders now come as mfx so I presume you need to change the sddress. |
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer. |

For old clunkers (like me) using M digital, sharing one k/m83 decoder port is not optimal, as the single power pulse may not be enough to move 2 solenoids of older switches and signals. I defer to others about modern digital track and accessories. |
