Hi all. I was given this control coach by a friend - he found it in an auction lot he'd bought and he isn't into HO.  I've been looking on the Internet and can only find 3 variants - this control car, a second/first class coach and a second class coach. However, I cannot work out if it had more coaches, or another control car at the other end, or if it was pushed / pulled by a loco. Can anyone tell me please?

It would have been used with a loco, probably something like a Br218 or an electric loco of a similar age. these would have been mainly commuter car sets, so minimal time turn around at a terminus, and if going up a branch line no facilities to run the loco around the train. Hence the control car you have for when the train is being pushed by the loco.

A typical train had one to six coaches in my experience. One control car only, loco at the other end.
I remember five-car trains with only one AB coach and six-car trains with two AB coaches. Not much first class needed for commuter trains.
Different liveries can be mixed in one train, including silver, traffic red, mint green, and even lightgrey/orange. |
