Hi, I inherited a Marklin 37785 which is an ICE3 which came in its own box etc. When I received it in September this year, I quickly tested it and all was working and it was running round my track happily. Last week I got it back out of its box and it's as dead as can be. Neither my MS2 nor Z21 can now recognise that the loco is present. It seems fairly older technology as the loco ID is set via dip switches. Have checked and they are set to default 3.
Could anyone suggest what the problem might be?
Thanks

The decoder is in the restaurant, power pickup is from the leading control car. Bad contact between coaches (pins not fully pushed in or pins bent to the side) can prevent operation of the train.
The restaurant can be tested alone when you set it to take power from the pantograph and connect a cable to the pantograph. This bypasses the couplers. |

yes I found the PCB and dip switches under the roof of the central car. Cant actually see a decoder as such. Have checked the pins and they are all straight and seem to be home fully.
Edit: Thanks I will try and test via the pantograph
Thanks

Have tested via Pantograph and nothing
Thanks anyway for your suggestions. I guess the PCB has been blown in someway

How have you determined they are set to address 3? This doesn't sound correct for this model. Do remember that the switches in Marklin decoders do NOT set a binary number. If the decoder has four switches, and switches 1 and 2 are on then the address is 72, which is the 'standard' address for a railcar. If the decoder has 8 switches then having switches 1 and 2 on simultaneously is not an allowed value. The only allowed settings are switch 1 OR switch 2 are on, or both are off. I would expect to find switches 1 and 3 on to set address 72, again to set the 'standard' address for a railcar.

Hi.
On my model there is an eight-way dip switch and the manual has a table for the different ID's. The ID3, is in bold, (to indicate default I assume) and that is what the switches are set to. Off the top of my head I cannot recall the sequence, but can look when I get home this evening.

When getting power from the panto, did you have to change a switch somewhere to tell it not to get power that way (and not from the sliders)? -like the switches that normally are on every e-lok, choosing panto or slider... |

There is also a direction switching unit on the pcb board, so if the polarity is set opposite of the panto current input, have you tried reversing the power feed connection wires on the panto? On occasion, a model doesn't respond, so I either reboot the controller, switch to another Loco on the controller, then back to the one not responding, or if that doesn't work, remove it from the controller menu, and re install again.

Thanks I'll have a look when I next have a few moments free. The loco has been removed from the controller - the problem is that three controllers don't recognise the loco is even on the track

The loco has been removed from the controller - the problem is that three controllers don't recognise the loco is even on the track They will not automatically register the loco, the decoder is too old to have that facility. You need to call up the database on the controller and select the loco by catalog number if you are using an ms2 or cs2.

Thank you again. for this suggestion. I will try that later this week and let you know how I get on. I assumed that the controller would recognise the loco using the Find function
