Hello,
In many workshops and railway erecting shops, crane locomotives were used to pick up and deposit materials.
In the old days these were small steam locomotives fitted with a crane that could swivel.
The crane was operated by steam for lifting and lowering and a mechanical device for swivelling.

For era VI I modified this little Märklin diesel-hydraulic to reperesent a crane loco.
My local Märklin dealer had this item (from 29253 set) that was unrepairable and did not have a motor.
But the MFX decoder still worked and the lights work according to direction chosen on the controller.
The cab is now modified with some clear plastic to represent glass, and I think it looks better.
I usually tow this loco with another loco, although it looks OK sitting in the sidings.

I picked up a little toy crane truck at the $2 store, removed the crane and fitted it to this loco.
I now have an extendable crane loco which looks the part in my industrial or workshop areas.
It required only one screw from inside the body which allows it to swivel.

Maybe one day I will get another one of these locos with a motor so it can be driven.

Hello Ak,
The buffer stop is plastic made by Hornby for OO scale.
I placed it on a track terminated by the Märklin 24001 (the smallest of all the C track pieces).
I just painted the buffer plate red and white like the Märklin example 24977.
