Hi all,

I know of a seller, who is selling a Fleischmann 1166 - that is a br38 made for 3-rail AC system for Marklin. Cool. However, the seller says that the loco is analogue only. I did a bit of googling, and the results kept telling me that it has, in fact, a dual operating mode, analogue and digital. I want to buy it, but the seller is insisting that it is NOT digital. I suspect that it is simply on analogue operating mode, and the seller can't be bothered to check that. Sooo... If any of you have any information regarding the 1166, or simmilar, please shed some more light on it.

Thanks,
Lev

Hello
Dont have this particular model, but i do own a S6 from the same period and with the same description available. The loco came with an electronic reverse unit for AC analog operation plugged in a NEM651 interface, digital operation was possible by simply plugging a decoder with that interface to the loco.
Maybe is the same case in this loco.

Thank you for the reply. You may be correct, but various sites suggest the the following:

Mode of operation :

-analog
-digital

Simmilar problem with the 1896 limited edition packs, or simmilar; some suggest "dual mode operation is available (meaning digital, therefore also analogue), but some (some on eBay) mention analogue only).

Thanks!

Hello Lev,
I have a Fleischmann 1113 which is similar vintage, made at the factory for Märklin systems.
It definitely has a decoder because that is how I run it - motor is in the tender.
It is a very good runner.
It lists as both analog and digital in most descriptions.

Check this site:
FLM 1166
It confirms it is both analog and digital.

HO Scale - Märklin (ep II-III and VI, C Track, digital) - 2 rail HO (Queensland Australia, UK, USA) - 3 rail OO (English Hornby Dublo) - old clockwork O gauge - Live Steam 90mm (3.1/2 inch) gauge.

Yup 😁 you are correct. All sites confirm this. Perhaps the seller is lazy. And yes, FLM stuff is really well made.
