For various reasons I am building a small 90x160 cm layout
using old-style center rail M-track - I plan a similar one with
M-Puko-track and might do others as well.

The layout is in 2 modules to facilitate storage and transport.

Weight and cm3 are key factors.

Layout is completely analog - not a decoder in sight.

The old trafos are rather heavy.

I thought about having a cheap small SMPS installed under each layout,
with easy connection with extension wire to wall socket.

On the layout - next to the blue control boxes - would be a
pot-knob and a button to get a 24 Volt spike to change direction.

Is this feasable ? I'll insulate the SMPS properly - at least the 230V end
;-)

PS - this has been cross-posted at the Bar&Grill maillist.

Hi Christian,
I can't speak to the SMPS, etcetera, but have you considered using 6647 and/or 6629 for running the M track? They're smaller and lighter than the older trafos. You could even spread the load out with a 6002 for lighting and solenoids if needed. 6647's and 6002's seem to go for ~EUR30 each on eBay. 6629's are rarer and the shipping for the Sold ones is more than the recent prices for the trafo!
Best wishes from another M-track analog fan!
Brian
