There is a video on Youtube where the user describes a crack/defect in the shell of one of the pilot coaches of his 5 unit Giruno basic set.

Even 600 Euros seems kind of steep, considering that you still need to buy extra cars for an authentic setup. I can see forking over that kind of money for a large stem loco with a lot of moving external parts, but for a modern unit with no multi-colored interior, I'd pass never mind the obvious QC oversight. I would definitely contact the factory for a new shell if I were him.

To each their own! It costs a lot to develop a new model. The build up of it is very complex in the couplings, and molding. I don't need extra cars for it. It comes in a bit shorter than my 5 unit ICE 3. Not that I won't buy one add on set later. The onlt function it lacks from the ICE 4 is pantographs which can bounce up on the catenary because the cable to extend tem that high can't be accomadated by the shorter cars. It makes up for that in lighted destination boards.

I'm not certain why the pantographs don't fully extend. It may be limited by the wire that is used to retract them digitally.

I have the full 11 unit Piko train and am rather impressed with that model.
I have ordered the Maerklin set and have been a little concerned about the print errors on a number of models and this first report of this defect in the shell
If you look closely, you can see that the defect appears on only on the side, but on the inner side of the headlight cut out as well.
I would send this unit back to the dealer for replacement/exchange.

As far as Marklinist5999's comment about opening it up, this earlier video showed that adding figures can be done relatively easily:

I would definitely consider waiting a period of time before making such modifications if this might impinge on warranty/return/exchange rights.

I agree Mike! I'm actually nervous about trying to separate the body. He's quite comical and a good demo. He's using an ESU lokpilot.

For the cost I could buy a new washing machine and TV set. Don’t tell my wife though. The price of these sets is ridiculous but if they can get it then good luck to them.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

$600 US buy's a mid level washer. A nice led smart tv roughly a 40 inch runs about $400.

Why complain about the price? Can anyone here do it cheaper? Märklin has been and will be expensive. Once you have seen the production line you will agree.

I agree! Even prices at Costco retail are higher now, and not everything costs less than at other stores without a mebership fee. Electricity is almost double in Germany as in the US too. We cut costs where we can so we can afford some things we really want. Filled up with gasoline petrol tha other day first time in 6 weeks, so thats a savings.

Are you married??? My wife must shop in the wrong places. We just bought a new TV and it was nowhere near the price above (like $4K), albeit bigger.Crying

I don't think washing machines are as cheap as you say either. At least the ones my wife purchases.Confused

I'll assume you are single.Flapper

Yes Dave, but I am more technically inclined so my spouse trusts my knowledge. Our tv is only a 37 inch Philips led smart tv from about 2008. I have only priced the less expensive smaller sizes. To go larger, we'd have to change our cabinet. It's tall and very heavy. Our former sets were a 1986 RCA color track 2000 27 inch, and a Panasonic. Both were crt tube screens.
Our washer is a Samsung 4.5 cu. Ft. Steam front loader. It was $600 in 2019 with the riser base drawer.

It was announced that Piko will be making a new run of their version of the Giruno. Now that the Marklin main set has been out for a couple months, I am curious what those of you that have it think?

https://www.bahnorama.ch...;n=2023-08-24-1692880699

For anyone that has the Piko version, how does it connect together? Does each part couple individually or or sections of it permanently coupled like the Marklin version?

I have the Piko model (Ceneri) and am very happy with it. There is no core module in the set. All 11 coaches are individual, but must be coupled in a specific order. I think that you can assemble a shorter train and the new set seems to support that.

Probably a good idea for Piko. I like my Marklin and that the 3 core unit cars don't uncouple.
I know if a German guy who only buys Piko, Roco and JC. He calls Marklin Trashklin,so you can imagine our dialogue exchanges at times.
