Can i switch off and on power
on 8 different track pieces
with 8 adresses on my M84??

Hi Mille
No, you cannot switch off and on power on 8 different track pieces.
The reason is the M84 (60842 is the latest version) includes 4 different relais with each a SPDT set of contacts with screw terminals

You can select only ONE (base) address (either using the micro switches, by programming or by MFX automatic registration.
The 3 other addresses cannot be selected independently but follow the one you have selected (x+1, x+2, x+3)

Im using green side (green dots)
for turning off and on track power
but what does the red dot side do then

The screw terminals, grouped by 3 have a SPDT (Single Pole Dual Transfer)
This means that for each group you have a common (in the center) and 2 poles (Green and Red). when one is connected to the common, the other is disconnected.
They are called växlingskontakt in Swedish (I think)

So what you say is that if green is on
red is off or vice versa?
So i could use ( in my case) red dot side
for something?
Example; if track power is on , a light in a
house somewhere goes off?

You can use 8 tracks to control switch off/on in 4 adresses with the m84.

Well perhaps yes, but not without compromise.

You could split the 8 tracks into 4x track pairs. You could then have (only) one track from each pair on at a time. That could be impractical unless designed suitably from the start; eg two shadow stations of 4 tracks each.

See page 18 in the manual linked by Jean:

"Mode 2 (Value 2) – 8 Switches, 8 Addresses
In this mode of operation, the decoder occupies 8 addresses. Switching the outputs is done by means of red/green
buttons. Red switches the output off and green switches the
output on."

See also:
"Mode 1 (Value 1) – 8 Switches, 4 Addresses
Mode function ensured only with Märklin central unit
controllers.
In this mode of operation, the decoder occupies 4 addresses. Switching the outputs is done by means of momentary
buttons (same button for on and off). An output is controlled
by the red momentary button, and the green momentary
button controls the second output."

As I understand it there are 8 single-contact relais that normally behave like 4 double-contact relais to emulate the behaviour of the old k84 which really had 4 relais only.

Are you sure about that? The manual sounds as if this can be done without compromise.

YES you can.
However the method is different for a m84.1 (60841=white) and a m84.2 (60842=black)

For the black m84.2, you may set the unit into 8 address mode and individu ally control the 8 relays
(out of the box, in 4 address mode these relays are "configured" to work in pairs.)

You do need to take into consideration that each pair still has a common common,

For the white m84.1 (and black 84 in 4 port mode) you may configure each port to be separately "toggled" with the
1R, 1G, 2R, 2G, 3R, 3G, 4R, 4G.
The emphasis is "toggle" so you can not specifically say "turn On" or "turn Off" and the controllers indication is therefore not correct.

One other function of the m84 configuration is the ability to set an "off mask"
Normally (out of the box), if you press 1G it turns that on and then is set to turn off 1R.

Scenario, = you have an 8 road fiddleyard and will only ever have one track live at a time.
Or maybe 7 roads, with the 8 meaning all dead

The m84 may be set up so that a single button will ..
1R = 1R ON .and. 1G,2R,2G,3R,3G,4R,4G all OFF
...
4G = 4G ON .and then. 1R,1G,2R,2G,3R,3G,4R all OFF

Yes programmed mine via my CS3 , by memory you have to program it to the 8 addresses then delete it and reinstall it. I use mine for controlling track current in my hidden staging area.
