Hi all, wonder if anyone who has an ESU Ecos 50200 has come across the issue I am having. On start up when loading is complete one is unable to use the touch screen. I can only change screens via the button with the loco logo & toggle switches. Any idea on this before I try something drastic?
Thanks Dave... |

It's possible a speck of dirt has got stuck under the Ecos' bezel surrounding the screen. The speck may be large enough that it is pressing down on the touchscreen preventing you from selecting any menus.
Before you laugh, I've had this happen on a CS2. Use a soft brush to clean under the bezel and see if that helps.

Thanks for the tip Dave. I will do that tomorrow. It comes back to life now & then as if nothing is wrong so you may well be on the money. Let you know tomorrow. If on for a bit & it gets to normal operating temperature is when this issue happens. |

The clip down cover may have come loose giving intermittent connection to the touch panel. You will need to remove the back from your cs to check this, requires a Torx driver with reasonable reach to get down to some of the screws - i think it is a #8 from memory.

Alan, Dave has an Ecos not a CS2. While the same advice will apply the connectors may be different.

Dave I have had the thing in pieces & put together again with no improvement. Tried it spread out on the table loose with same result. It definately has an issue. Looks like I need a local specialist. Not worth sending back.
Cheers Dave... |

Yep. Only half of my screen works any more, I also pulled everything apart, checked plus and the like, but there was no change..
I run my layout using software so it is not a big issue for me. If you connect using a terminal it will also work normally too. Mine is packed away at the moment, so I can't remember the software - I suspect it is something like VNC Viewer.. |

Hello Adrian, you have my attention. I am all ears & would like to hear about how one does that if you have time to explain. On one hand I am not sure if its my screen at fault or the board. If I knew for certain I can order the required parts I hope.
Cheers
Dave...

Hi all. I managed to resolve this issue. I slept on it & instead of having the mindset that I had a damaged touchscreen I decided to do what I should have done in the beginning. I did a back up & reset the device to default. The touch screen came to life. I then reset to default & installed an older backup from 2020 that had no issues & all worked. So I took the plunge & reset to default & installed the backup made in the morning 2023. All now works as it should. So in conclusion it boils down to either a software / hardware glitch. |

Well after letting it sit for a while I am back to square one. There is definately an issue. I believe its of my own doing. I cover all my controls at night with a purpose made towel & on this occassion I forgot to unplug the ECoS 50200 & only discovered it the next day 12 hrs later. It must have overheated the unit. So If rescue is implemented it starts the process but never completes & you sit with a Stop & Go switch on. Unpluging only option. Same goes for screen calibration. It comes back with message "unsuccessful" & cannot be shut down unless you pull the plug. I am going to try a repair & if that is not successful it will have to go back to ULM in Germany. Anybody have any experience of sending one back to DE for repairs?

Hi Dave,
Unplug the sniffer module and see if it boots without it. I know the sniffer module fails from time to time. If it boots ok try replacing the sniffer module once more and see if you get the same problem once more.

Hello Ross,
I will sure give it a go. I am leaning towards the main board having an issue. I am awaiting a damaged unit that has only half a screen. I am hoping his main board is good & I can fit my screen to it & fingers crossed it will be ok. Will keep you guys up to date on its status. I am aware this was one of the first units to come out & hence age may also be a factor in components failing. I was hoping to be able to buy a screen / Main board direct or used but I am not having much luck in that direction. |

Ross I tried that with zero success. Back to the drawing board for me. But thanks for the info. It all helps.

You are not alone to have this problem about touch screen. Did you know that ESU have forum too? Why don´t you ask there and find more solution how to fix the problem? ESU do also have Q&A about the old system. |

We most probably never find out why a touch screen files, I had my ECoS for at leat 10 years and never had a problem with it except when I connected it wrongly., I don't think ESU will give you an answer how to fix it

Thanks guys for all your replies. I can get it all working & switch off for say 10 mins & restart & it will be ok. But leave it for 30 mins & then the screen is not having its touch ability. Two things that stand out that there is issues with it are after completeing a screen calibration it says it was unsuccessful & you get a red stop light. One is unable to shut it down by holding the stop button down. Secondly when a rescue mode is inniciated it does its thing but does not reboot. Instead you get the Red & green buttons lighting up simultaneously & once again you cannot shut it down by any other means other than pull the plug out. The trick I use to get it to work for me temporarlily is to do a factory reset & then try a rescue or screen calibration that may or may not complete & then reload a saved profile like 4.0.0 & then I may get it functioning for a bit. I have tried the english Forum of ESU earlier in the piece but I may have to go further. Thanks for all your input guys. [img] [/img] Dave... |

In the Ecos manual it also show how to calibrate touchscreen. Press F2 and F7 in both side of the buttons and press Go. Should this helped? |

Hi Goofy, calibration if you read my previous post leads to failure & a bricked Ecos. The verdict from the ESU forum from one persons point of view is that my Esoc has suffered a major defect & should be returned to the factory in ULM. Unfortunately the costs are prohibitively expensive & I may be better off buying another one here new or used. |
