Question. Will a step-up converter for 120V to 240V be OK to use for 3 Marklin 60061 60 VA power packs in the US? At least 200 VA will be OK for Amp and voltage. But what about the difference in frequency? 60 Hz v. 50Hz. Intended for a CS2 and two boosters 60174. |

The 60061 is a high efficiency voltage converter that works from 230 VAC sinusoidal either 50 Hz or 60 Hz If you use a transformer to change your (sinusoidal, 50or 60Hz) mains voltage into 230 VAC this will be OK If you use a compact voltage converter, so called "travel adaptor" (high frequency, small transformer) then you are in totally unknown territory and you may end-up burning the 60061. I wouldn't recommend it Cheers Jean |

Hi! As noted the 60061 is expecting a particular input voltage of 230V at 50-60Hz. While you should be ok if you can match that I agree with Jean and be too nervous using a step up/adapter myself. Have you considered the purchase of a 60045 ? https://www.maerklin.de/...ts/details/article/60045The 60045 is built to accept 100-240 Volts. 60041, 60042, 60043 and 60045 only differ on the adapter plug for their respective markets.

Thank you nhumps. I know about the 60045 but the three 60061s are available for free. I now have a picture of the label on the 60061 and it clearly states 50 – 60 Hz. A step-up transformer will be the cheapest way. |

A step-up transformer will be the cheapest way. I would try plugging the 60061 into 110v. You won't hurt it, but I believe it will run satisfactorily. I think you will find that the only reason that it is marked for 230V is because of the plug on it, and that the 110V version is the same inside, just a differenct plug on the end of the cord. It is a long time since I have seen a switch mode supply that wasn't capable of running on 100-230V as the wide input range is practically ubiquitous these days, and it doesn't make sense for the manufacturer to stock two different boards when one will do.

I believe that is mostly lawyer talk, which we get a lot of ihere n the US.
It would be idiotic to have different internals for switched mode power supplies which can easily handle a wide range of inputs. Only the mains plug needs to be market specific.
I believe that the manual entry is real, but I can't imagine anything beyond legal disclaimers being in play here. |
