Greetings! My wife and I will be visiting Spain in May. Two of the larger cities we will be visiting are Madrid and Barcelona. Any recommendations for train shops? An earlier thread in 2014 listed Gotthard trens in Barcelona, but the supplied web site link comes up empty. The address on Google street view doesn't appear to show a model shop. Did they move or close? We're looking forward to travel on the new high speed Renfre trains!

Hi amysdad, Gotthard Trens closed business on 28th december. Anyway, they moved from the city of Barcelona to Abrera some years ago. Some shops you can visit in Barcelona city: Planet Train: C. de Ribes 79, 08013 Barcelona, https://www.planettrainbcn.com/Casa Palau: C. Balmes 72, 08007 Barcelona, https://www.palauhobby.net/trenes-electricos/Rocafort Modelisme: Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 436, 08015 Barcelona, https://rocafort.com/A new shop, Brenner Trens, was opened after the closure of Gotthard Trens. It is based in the town of Vic, province of Barcelona. They don't have stock in the shop as they operate mostly by email. I don't know how is the market in Madrid. Regards, Rafael Bonet from Barcelona |

Hi in Madrid as already mentioned a visit to “El Museo del Ferrocarril” is a great plan. https://www.museodelferrocarril.org/At the museum as well there is a second hand train model market every first Sunday of the month. As for shops when I go to Madrid I normally pay a visit to: “Bazar Matey”. https://www.matey.comHope it helps. Regards,

Bienvenido a Madrid, Welcome to Madrid, as you have already been told, you have Bazar Matey, in Calle de la Santísima Trinidad, 1, 28010 Madrid, Metro Iglesia www.matey.com, is a store with new material and prices recommended by märklin, is in a central area. You also have JCtren, www.jctren.com, this is an online store but by contacting the owner Javier de la Cruz you can arrange a visit to his store (his home) is located in Getafe (a town on the outskirts) has a lot of 2nd hand and new material also and very competitive prices. Also, the last Saturday of each month in Chamartin station (Madrid) in a local hotel that is in the station itself is held a small market with several stalls with marklin (including jctren), his stall is at the bottom and right, if you plan to go to this market say it and I'll tell you how to locate the place where it is held. And finally, as you have already been told the first Sunday of each month in the railroad museum is held a market much larger than the previous one in which there are several stalls that have märklin, also the visit to the museum is worth it, in this market jctren's stall is just after entering all to the left. Greetings and welcome |

Regards, Rafael Bonet from Barcelona Thank you Rafael! I was going to ask you which one was the best choice - given that while my wife is very understanding of our hobby - I might be able to visit one. I decided to look on a map. All three are a short walk from our hotel! One is actually a three minute walk. This could be dangerous! Thanks again, Kevin Baughman

I really lucked on on my hotel choices in Barcelona and Madrid. Rafael gave me three options in Barcelona - all three within 21 minutes walk from my hotel. Bazar Matey is less than that from my hotel in Madrid. Thanks!
