Norske tog has recently signed contracts for 17 new long-distance FLIRT Nordic Express trainsets. and with an option for up to 83 additional trains. Vy and Go-ahead nordic etc will operate them.
(Stadler har previously delivered the 150 FLIRT trains to Norske tog)

This will also likely be the end of traditional passenger trains with a locomotive and coaches except perhaps for some for the Flom line etc.

It will be interesting to see how the new train sets will cope with the harsh winter conditions in the mountains.
Train sets have been tried before without too much successWink

Hi bph,
Thanks for the interesting news.
Do Märklin model the FLIRT type trains?
I could not find them in the Märklin web search.

Unfortunately Marklin does not make any models of flirt trains (yet?). But LGB has some Stadler trains. 23100 and 20220

Hopefully, Marklin will make some in the future as Flirt trains has been sold to many countries including Germany. ref https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadler_FLIRT

Some of the long-distance FLIRT Nordic Express will probably also be fitted with a PowerPack car like the class 76 ref https://www.norsketog.no/en/trains/artikkel-36384. 4 diesel engines and batteries in a small unit/"locomotive" with a walk through corridor for passengers. The batteries can provide a boost during acceleration in diesel-electric mode and preserve breaking energy. Some other countries also have this option.

Hybrid trainsets would be quite interesting for those who don't have overhead wires on their layout as they can be operated prototypically with the pantographs down;). I also find the 39290 for the same reasons, but I hope Marklin will also make a model of the Stadler Euro Dual and the new EURO 9000

A video of a CargoNet EuroDual and a class 76 Flirt operated by SJ, with PowerPack.
