Hi folks,
I finally got working on my 22148 (SBB Re4/4 TEE livery) loco. Task is supposed to be quite simple: remove DC connector, install 3 rail slider, add decoder and off we go ...
Well, I removed the DC pick-up connector and installed the Marklin slider, installed an ESU Lokpilot, put the loco on the rails ... and MS cuts off because of short circuit. There was a second connector for (-) on the opposite boogie, removed it and short circuit problem is solved. I switched to Trix MS to find out the decoder address, and it worked; loco shaken a bit and the address appeared on the screen.
So far so good ... well, not that good.
I just can't get the loco running or turn on the lights.
Any ideas?

Have you tried to power down and restart the MS? If that doesn't work, try removing the loco. and reloading it to the MS. Otherwise, I don't know.

The "shaking" of the loco suggest that it was identified as a DCC loco - and that power goes to the motor. Make sure the DCC protocol is enabled in the MS2. DCC address should be 3 for a new decoder. Try changing the address and try running again.
I'd add the other (-) wire where it should go - to the loco frame. But that should not be the issue here. With the extra power pick-up the loco will run more reliably. |

Latest ... Loco runs sort-of ok in analog mode (using Trix analog controller - I don't have the Marklin one where I am). I say sort of, because loco starts to run after the dial is almost at half way (say at 2 in the scale of 4). When I bought the loco (more than 15 years ago) it was running really smoothly. Could this whole thing be happening due to lubrication problem? If so; why the lights don't come on in digital mode? I just can't figure this out

When using a DC controller, you can try with the DC connector instead of the decoder and see if the loco starts earlier and runs faster - and if the lights work. |

Tried it; indeed the loco starts earlier and the lights work. My best guess is that there's something wrong with the decoder

Yes, 8 pin socket; I've tried both ways. But, you maybe right; maybe a configuration problem. Do you know if there's a way to reset a decoder with Trix or Marklin MS1?

With ESU decoders you normally write value 8 to CV 8 to reset them. Can be done with Märklin MS1 using loco 36330 from database and selecting reset from the menu. I'm not familiar with Trix MS 1, but assume you can access CVs. |

Will report soon. P.S. For the rails and the loco haven't seen much use for a veeery long time, some track and wheel cleaning improved the analog operation. And you were right; the second pick-up shoe helps with the voltage immensely.

Latest update ... I've reset the decoder with success but it is still unresponsive to commands. I gave up on this one, need new decoder it seems. Thanks for all your input; it's great to know a Marklinist is never alone C.
