I have two Hornby Dublo Steam Engines ( 1954/55) lying unused for more than three years. This was bacause of the Covid Pandemic when I was down for a long time with the virus. I have recently had a look at them and find that the wheels have jammed. I cannot turn them by hand, I have not tried with the power on. I have put a drop of seweing machine oil on the gear and wheels,, but that has not worked. Could some one please suggest a solution. Thanks and Regards. Kumar India

Hello Kumar,
I am sorry to hear you had the virus. I hope your recovery is sound and you enjoy good health again.
The motor, worm and spur gear cannot be turned using the engine wheels. The only way to test is to open the body, then turn the windings by hand so that the worm operates on the gear, thus turning the wheels very slowly. Applying 9 to 12 volts to the opposite poles of the motor will also turn the motor, and the wheels at a normal speed.

Hi Kumar - as Kimball says, and while you are at it, put a small drop of oil on the worm itself, and on the two bearings at each end of the windings shaft. Rgds Charles..
