Hi guys,

so I bought a BR103 a while back and it was sold as analog loco Märklin 3054. So I looked up what kind of motor fits it and LFCM seemed the right choice, so I also bough 60944 with mLD3 decoder.

So tonight was supposed to be the night to get the job done, but now that I opened the loco for the first time, the interiors look something else than anything I've seen before (so far).

There is motor labeled as Maxon and also some sort of chip... No reverse unit, or anything else I'm used to. I have uploaded a photo here:

https://drive.google.com...8CV2lI9/view?usp=sharing

Can anyone tell me what these components all are?

Also, will this Maxon engine work with the mLD3 decoder and if so, should I still replace it with the 60944, or is this Maxon engine any better?... Aaaand if it is, what is the motor type to configure the mLD3 with?

EDIT: One of the chips is this device https://www3.panasonic.b...etail&part_no=ATQ224

Thanks!

-Eino

hi
my guess ist this it has been converted with this kit: (or something similar)
https://www.sb-modellbau.com/details/H0-Motorisierungssatz-Maerklin-E-03_BR-103_alt

yes, Maxon motors are quite good and recommend keeping it and it will most likely work fine with an mLD3.

check the Maxon number, to make sure it's a bell armature motor and use the dedicated decoder setting if it is. (and remember to use the decoder auto calibration).

So do I ditch the electronics and just connect the motor to the mLD3 directly?

This is the motor: Glockenankermotor Maxon 252060 which seems to be a DC motor.

Best,
-Eino

as far as I can see yes you can remove the old electronic to and wire it to the mLd3. (obviously no guarantees are given ;)
but check the motor specifications on the Maxon website, if possible, to make sure its no surprises.
before you connect it to the decoder, you could consider wiring it up to a 12 dc supply to make sure it's working like it should and measure that it doesn't draw too much.

Here's the end result:

Still have to install LED's though. Also installed a longer pickupshoe since these 3 axel bogies can easily fit the 7185.

However, I only have the Mobile Station 2. I was able to set the correct motor type, but there is no way to initiate the automatic configuration. I still can set acceleration and deceleratin delays though.

Thanks!
