ADB4DF4B-BA36-4E0B-AA8B-BE8349ED3837.jpegGot around to a more lengthy run of my new V188 double diesel on my Noch suitcase layout. This incorporates gradients and sharp curves which the V188 negotiates with ease and a reasonable turn of speed. I weighed the loco(s) on my postal scales (can’t find the more precise one) and both halves together register as 70 grammes but as these scales measure in 5 gramme increments it means that it is somewhere between 65 & 70 grammes.
The pulling power is impressive, it handles 11 four axle coaches with ease on the outer circuit and just manages that number on the convoluted inner one.
The headlights are bright even at very low voltage ie before the loco moves off, however the two red tail lights on the ‘a’ end are only working intermittently - in fact I would prefer them not to work at all.
This is one of my favourite loco types - I have the green H0 version and ordered a red one about 5 years ago - it hasn’t arrived yet!
I would certainly buy another Z one if the opportunity arose.

The V80 was a bit of a disappointment. The V188 made it all up. And then some more

Trainini hinted at a green V188 Z version. If that's true I'll get that one too.

I hope the V320 will perform as good as the V188 :)

That is impressive for a Z loco.

I had to smile to myself, I received the insider certificate for the Z gauge V188 the other day - only thing was i have never bought any Z Insider items ... BigGrin

In a previous year I also received the certificate for the Z Insider Br96. Seems my dealer is using my non-purchases to get someone else items he would like ... Mellow

A personal opinion. I like the layout, just needs a few more growies. A few more little sub scenes of people doing something, & some form of ballast, even if it is on the dodgy side!

Seriously, that has turned out to be an amazing locomotive. This guy on YouTube has it pulling 100 axles! Some just like to show off.

I like long trains, but unfortunately my layout is basically 2.5% gradient excluding station, but a bit of lead will help stuffed in here and there.

Thanks Chris, weight duly noted! I guess the body shells are cast metal for the loco(s) to be weighing that much?

Many of us are still waiting on our V188's here in the states. Latest from Marklin USA is a shipment is due in January and hopefully we will have them by February.

I’m still awaiting my H0 Christmas wagon which GM says is because Märklin haven’t produced the correct paperwork (!)

Still waiting for the shipment of native Australian hardwoods to make the paper, seedlings planted by Vestal Virgins who were born on the 29th of March.

I doubt it’s lack of paper, because I did receive a beautiful “suitable for framing” signed certificate commemorating my ownership of a V188, months ago!
