Does a TEE train run as push/pull or does the leading engine do all the work?

It depends which TEE train we’re talking about.  There were TEE trains with and without control cars. E.g. the SBB RAm and RAe TEE trains had control cars and therefore both were push and pull. The RAe had the motor car in the middle of the train, so you can say the RAe was always both push and pull. However, there were also traditional TEE trains e.g. run by SBB Re 4/4 I or Re 4/4 II engines that (most often) run without control cars. There were a number of trainsets used for TEE services, starting in 1957. A few of the services were performed by locomotive pulled consists. The trainsets were equipped with pilot coaches, so they could just depart a Kopfbahnhof in the opposite direction, while the locomotive pulled services required an additional locomotive to be coupled to the rear of the arrived train that would then pull the train out of the station and on to it's next destination or border station. The Swiss (SBB) initially had the RAm, which was a joint development with the Dutch NS. The Germans had the VT08 and VT11. The French had the RGP in TEE colors. The Italian FS had the ALn Breda. By the early 1960s, the Swiss had introduced their multi system RAe electric trainsets. The Germans, French and Italians had introduced locomotive pulled services using newly introduced coach designs. Most of the TEE trains were international, with the exception of the DB and SNCF which also labelled a few domestic trains as TEE services. By 1965, even the DB flagship "Rheingold" and "Rheinpfeil" were incorporated into the TEE offerings. As far as I know, there has never been a locomotive pulled TEE service which had a pilot coach at the end.
