If I purchase two Marklin locomotives the same will one register with a different address or will both respond to the same address when controlling. Was thinking of buying a loco same as one I already have. Not sure if you can change an address but then again CVs are a bit beyond me (its an age thing lol)
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

They will get different addresses. The mfx address cannot be set manually.
Decoders are identified by their serial number, not by the name.

Suppose you wanted to use them with the same address on a non MFX controller like a 6021, then the factory set address would be the same per the user manual? This might be beneficial in tandem multi unit operation, when other trains are running. Otherwise, with a CS2, or CS3, the MFX protocol would need be disabled to do it before auto recognition?

Thanks for that. Interesting that all locos are recognised by their serial number of the decoder fitted and not the loco so will go ahead and buy another of the same.
