Just bought Marklin 4998: DB "Gesellschaftswagen", oceanblue/beige, Digital with Sound & Passenger - HO AC - NEW, and it appears to be in new condition, but it is not working at all. The seller did not test it and would take it back for a full refund.

Since I heard something rattling in the car, I took the body of, and all 4 door windows had become unglued. So I put the car on the track and tried both my MS2 and 6021 again, but no reaction at all. I took a closer look at the cables & soldering contact, but everything seems to be OK.

Since I like this car, I would like to fix it. Any thoughts ?

it has an 8 dip switch, I can't remember the digital number but you can find it I'm sure either from the seller or the internet.

Hi Tom,

John’s (river6109) original thread below discussed this :

and has many answers.

It should work with the 6021 provided the DIP switches on the CU 6021 have the correct settings. The default settings should work AFAIK.
Also check the address set in the car, also with DIP switches.

I'm afraid it won't work with the MS2. But any Central Station should be able to control it.

Regards
Tom

Interesting that a CS2, or CS3 can operate it, but not an MS2? You can't manually install it via an MM address like a Loco.?

It is a special function decoder protocol only used by about three Märklin items - and those items do not work with the Mobile Station.
Even the Central Station 1 can handle them. But when it comes to MM protocol, the CS1 is the most versatile Märklin controller ever.

I think those items are 4998, 4999, and a measuring coach.
