If you have a PC, you could get a much more competent controller for < EUR 200 : IB-com.
I'm still in favour of Uhlenbrock system design: the LocoNet is the kernel, not individual monolithic units. IB II certainly has it's main strength in that it's a component in the LocoNet system.

Lars,
On the subject of IB and LocoNet which I am not that familiar with, but I did read a Digitrax catalog and it also uses LocoNet Kernel. The digiTrax has sometheing called Transponding that registers what Loc decoder is located on which block connected with there version of an S88. Does IB have something like this. |
DT Now powered by ECoS II unit#2, RocRail
era - some time in the future when the space time continuum is disrupted and ICE 3 Trains run on the same rails as the Adler and BR18's. |

Very interested...! But with Intellibox II you will also have an USB connecting to PC too...! So you will have 2 choising by using as control, via Intellibox II or and PC. With only IB-com,you can only using PC as control. Goofy |

Hello, the IB does not use bidrectional technigue for the track feed like this "Transponding", or NMRA "Railcom", or mfx "feedback". Instead Uhlenbrock has functional system since several years "Lissy", where IR sesnors are placed at strategical places, and issues commands, which performs the same function as "Transponding" is supposed to do, and more: - Identifies locos at certain places - Senses speed and direction - Trigger preset speed and/or direction changes for the passing loco - Trigger functions in the loco, like sound the horn, put on light and lowering sound in tunnels... - Trigger any accessory commands around the layout. This can be done without the use of a computer, all that is needed is a LocoNet central. WHich means, Lissy can be used with Digitrax centrals. I think (not 100% sure) that using transponder technique would need a Digtrax central producing the track signal, in which case the IB can be used as a throttle, and Motorola protocol is not easily available.
/Lars

Goofy I saw this item at ToyFair, and why any Marklinist would buy it is beyond comprehension. Very dated user interface.[:o)] |
