Just wanting to ask if any forum members own any 231 4-6-2 steam loco's in SNCF or PLM Livery if the loco's are made from plastic or metal when it comes to boiler and cab and also can they run on Marklin K or C track?

Oh, all metal for sure! Possibly some brass parts. Very expensive, high end models.

REE are very nice models which are made to scale and as I have found don’t like the K track, even if you alter the axles. I had a very nice set of coaches which took a dislike to k track curve points. Everything else was fine. But I have three such points on my layout, so I could only run them slowly and in one direction 😕🤣 the problem was the flange depths, and I suspect the same problem would happen with the steamer!! If you have wide radius C track I think you might be ok. But an expensive mistake if not. Especially when there developed for 2 rail. I could not replace the wheels on my coaches as the bogies were very fine with no room for large flanges! Here’s some YouTube film of the coaches which I eventually sold for to buy Marklin 26cm coaches which run without issues. Sorry to poop on your idea. But think hard, as there’s nothing more disappointed than an expensive shelf filler. |

Hi, I own two REE 231 models but they are 2-rail DCC sound and smoke. Mine are 231K and 231G
I can confirm that the loco and tender bodies are metal and have a high degree of detail.
The manual states that the locos are designed for R1 curves ( 360 mm radius) but " will operate more smoothly on larger radius curves"
The manuals also make no reference to 3-rail versions but they are listed in the REE catalogue, perhaps a different manual is issued with these versions.

I have REE Modeles' 231 G, 231 K and 141 E. Can't speak for running them on Marklin K or C Track cause I'm a 2 rail guy but these locos are mostly made of metal with extremely fine details! Really beautiful models and the performance is probably better than any loco I've seen in any scale. Here's a vid of my 141E in action pulling some OCEM RA coaches also from REE: |

I have two REE Modeles 231 three rail steamers that are run on Marklin K and C track. Generally they run well: however, the sliders seem tooccasionally disassemble on the turnouts. The Marklin rep in the U.S. recommended placing Marklin sliders on the loks. That project is in the works.
