I was in Sydney over the last couple of weeks and had the pleasure of the opportunity to visit the impressive layout of our esteemed member Ross who has been collecting Märklin since the age of eight. The digital layout is quite sizeable and is completely computer-controlled, facilitating preordained complex shunting and roundhouse/turntable movements whilst simultaneously refreshing the mainline trains in exchange for many others waiting in the shadow station. As members will know from his postings and his website, Ross has strong skills in electronics, seen in numerous items he has manufactured for his layout and the clever animation of lots of small detailed scenes such as a “working” water crane in the steam facility area. The master at work : Some snaps of the layout: A very pleasant visit thank you Ross.

I too have seen Ross' layout, albeit many many years ago and it was impressive then. With the advances in technology since I can only imagine |

Hi Philip, Thank you for the visit and fine company. I'm pleased you enjoyed the afternoon viewing and talking trains. As you have discovered there is always something happening when the trains are computer controlled, engine exchanges and automatic shunting enhance the model train experience. The water crane was a modified Faller kit and can be seen below. Engine RefuellingHow I set up the Telex couplers for automatic or manual shunting. Shunting with Telex Couplers with TrainControllerPhilip you are most welcome to re visit the layout when you are in Sydney again.
