I have been doing an inventory of my Marklin pieces and also testing the pieces on an analog test track. Today I finally got to test the 26530 set.
Started testing the locomotive only. Thought there was some problem. Initially it got going, but when I tried to reverse direction, it stopped working. Then read the instructions and it mentioned that it would not operate fully without the cars attached. Attached the cars and sure enough, the locomotive started working smoothly.
One of the reasons I had gotten the set was because of the versatility of the Series 25 locomotive. Never thought it would only operate with the passenger cars!
Is there a quick fix to make the locomotive fully operational on its own?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi,

Real push-pull operation with slider changeover between the locomotive and the control car.

The manual has some notes about the pickup shoe requirements and J1/J2 jumpers, apparently the loco can run solo only for maintenance purposes. Unsure if that means removing the jumper(s) enables solo running. Else as you have discovered the car with the pickup shoe is required or you can only run in one direction without it.

hopefully that is of help.
