Hello,

I'm contemplating the purchase of a HAG WM BDe 4/4 and cab control car for my future C-Track layout. I'm interested in hearing from others who have experience running HAG trains on AC Marklin. Any issues with performance, derailments, etc.?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Hi Mike,BigGrin

Whilst primarily a Märklin enthusiast, I also have a soft spot for (old) HAG.

My three HAG locomotives running on Märklin track are detailed amongst other Swiss locos in this previous post :

My HAGs have all run very well on my Märklin layout. They are smooth, quiet, heavy, robust, trouble-free and strong ThumpUp

Enjoy your trains Laugh

I only have a couple but they have very smooth running motors.

Hag locomotives (Mörschwil) are probably the most reliable models in my collection. The motors are smoother than most others and I would take a classic (1985-2002) Hag motor over what other manufacturers offer today in a heartbeat.

The only downside to Hag models use on 3 rail is that the wheels have a wider surface than most Märklin models. I think that this standard may date back to when Hag used Fleischmann norms for their models. This can result in the outer edge of the wheel making contact with the puko (studs) on switches and crossings. At very slow speeds, this can cause a short and at normal speed, it can cause a spark as the train crosses the track in question.

That said, this is minor and not something that has kept me from having upwards of 30 Hag models in my collection.

Regards

Mike C
