Indeed, the price will be around 1599€. Please note this is the complete set with 9x coaches + digital, sound, interior lighting etc. (a complete list of features in english here: https://www.trainsdepot....t_in_ceneri_2020_livery)For a complete ICE set with the same number of coaches and similar functions we are around the 1300€ - 1400€ mark. Also, like usual in the last years with Piko for the Swiss models, this first edition of the RABe 501 "exclusive for the Swiss Market" with the "Ceneri 2020" sticker is the "crown jewel" but most probably in 2023 the standard set for the world market will be launched as a smaller "starter set" and additional coaches available in different extra sets (also without the digital and sound functions) but with a more democratic pricing (even if I don't expect the complete digital + sound set to go much lower than the 1500€ mark...).

Wow, I just went from very interested to clutching my 7 car Roco ICN as the bargain buy of the century at half the Piko price when new...
I love it, but way out of my league. (but not for others I'm sure, its a cool set!) |

I was more interested in the 610 from Lima, having a 11 car train would not be for everybody because the lack of space on the layout., like to see the outcome how many are interested in buying this unit., I've received an email asking Swiss Frank 1480.00 but there is plenty of time before it will be released in November 2022., |

A lot of dealers are offering a discount for pre-orders received in the next few weeks. So far, based on what I have seen, the model looks interesting.
Piko has a pretty decent track record mechanically. That said, I should buy some Crypto to cover the investment and hope that it yields me a free Giruno in a year's time ;)

John From catalogs, Marklin's Giruno has motorized pantographs, Piko's one doesn't. Piko's Giruno seems to have more light functions and maybe more sound functions. I wonder if these many sound functions make sense; do you care about ticket officer asking tickets in German, French and maybe other languages?

Yes Mario, but the digital pantograph is on the priciest two unit add on car set. The basic set has no panto.
After finding a substantial pre-order resrve discount, I bit the bullet and reserved the basic 5 unit 39810 SBB Gurino. Seeing as my layout doesn't have catenary, I don't care.
Like the boy in the movie "Used People" with Kathy Bates and Leonardo Mostriani said, stay away from the 3rd. rail!
The Marklin version does have control desk lighting like the Piko, and other light functions. Station announcements? Piko doesn't say.

I wish that people would actually read the description of the models before commenting.
The Maerklin SBB RABe 501 (Giruno) base set includes two coaches with digitally operated pantographs. Two additional pantographs are mounted on coaches included in one of the add-on coach sets, bringing the total to 4 per complete trainset.
Where this may become problematic for modellers is that the digitally controlled pantographs cannot be manually raised or lowered, meaning that in analog operation, you will not be able to have a pantograph raised unless it was raised digitally and then moved to an analog track.

The initial Piko model will be the "Ceneri" special edition of the Giruno. My understanding is that a normal liveried model will follow, likely made up of several sets like the Maerklin model and will feature interior lighting as an add-on option, making the price of the model lower. I don't yet have any concrete information as to what other differences there may be between the two productions other than the livery and the "special edition" nature of the first production.

My appologies, I was going by the photos. You can't see the panto's. An added function for my enjoyment then. The Marklin model also includes 3 different announcements.
I didn't find the Piko m.s.r.p. amount.
As for a follow up set minus "sans" interior lighting, I think it's a complex train to add lighting post production, especially to several cars.

According to the descriptions, both the Maerklin and Piko models will have cab and console lighting and many other light functions, including the Swiss taillight function.
Both models will have sound. I don't know whether Maerklin's will be as prototypical as Piko's which supposedly used sound samples from the actual train.
Both models are described as having 4 powered axles. The Piko model specifies that the model has 8 traction tires.
The Piko model will come with 2 speakers, so that sounds are coming from more than one location in the consist.
The Piko model will have removable caps on the ends of the trainset with three different options, an imitation Scharfenberg coupler, a NEM socket adapter or a hook coupling.
The Maerklin model does not mention the possibility of connecting a second trainset.
Realistically, with a length of 2,3m, most modellers will not have the space for two full trainsets.
I certainly hope that the sounds don't include "tickets please" or a stupid conversation between passengers.
I do hope that the sounds will include route announcements in German, French, Italian and English. I would hope that these announcements would not be limited, such as "naechste Halt Zürich-Oerlikon. Dieser Zug fährt weiter nach Zürich HB", which applies only to a stretch perhaps 15km in length. Hopefully it will allow for a greater distance, e.g. "nächste Halt Bellinzona. Dieser Zug fährt weiter nach Chiasso und Milano", which would cover pretty much anywhere on the Gotthard route.
I would also like to know more about the destination signs on the coach sides, whether these will be illuminated or not.
At this point, I am actually considering both models.

According to an Italian online shop Piko Giruno has illuminated destination signs in doors. Märklin catalog doesn't mention this.
