Looking for a loco to go with Sudwind 42994. Lippe have a Pikos 51354 and 51345 which maybe OK. Not keen on a BR103 which I cant find in stock anyway. Sorry cant post pics but any suggestion would be welcome.

All best for 2022

David

BR 120, or the V220, or 218 diesels maybe.

Do you want to model the Südwind precisely or are you trying to reproduce a generic InterCity train of that period?
Different trains would have had different types of traction depending on the route taken.

The Südwind consist or the more recent 43858/43927 282mm consist would be representative of a DB IC anywhere from 1979 to around 1995.

In Germany, such a train could have been pulled by the following locomotive types:

Electric
103
110/112
111
120
181/184

Diesel
216
218
220

In Austria, such trains were often pulled by 111 as far as Brenner, often with OBB Lok in tandem. I don't know whether the trains also ran elsewhere in Austria with DB traction, but it is possible. If not, those trains would receive OBB Loks at Munich or at border station.

In Switzerland, such trains were normally pulled by Re 6/6 or single or double Re 4/4II (depending on route) or occasionally be Ae 6/6.

Many thanks Mike.
The locos above would be what I am looking for and may go for a Diesel. It does not need to be exact consist but only that the loco would have been in service for that set of coaches.
Excellent knowledge which is much appreciated.

For a DB train, other than the 103 or 120, this would be a pretty typical locomotive to have been seen at the head of an Intercity:

I'm sure that there are still one or two out there in shops and for sure on the internet
