The Marklin 81080 "International Long Distance Passenger Train" (aka the Orient Express set) arrived. It is a beautifully detailed set, especially the coaches. The loco is the same Pacific, but painted in a really deep, really flat black paint. The boiler bands are painted in yellow, not gold, and they stand out against the black of the locomotive. The coaches are a bright blue color, much bluer than the catalog photos Marklin released. Silver roofs and bright yellow lining. The window frames are more of a copper color. I'm glad Marklin was able to get this set out, finally. It is a really great looking set, a real showpiece. Cheers, Mike |

Very nice looking set Mike. Is it posed on your layout? Good looking ballasting and foreground scenery (it's not that I don't like the background - it's just a bit out of focus).
By the way, how long are the coaches? |

another orient express made by KATO in n gauge http://www.tts.tw/forum/...d4345757a0195f706b22f4f6http://www.tts.tw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16534Luckily and coincidentally this year so many manufacturers are releasing this elegant passenger cars set in HO, N, Z. this car has travelled from paris via moscow, eurasia, china and hongkong to japan in 1980s. To fit for narrow gauge (1067mm) in japan, cars's bogies was changed to japanese type and was hauled by japan national rail(JNR) locomotives while running.

Thanks. It's shown on a diorama I've been working on. The photos aren't really the best, but I couldn't wait to post them. I had to get in pretty tight to avoid showing the clutter in the background. Click on the photos to see more of the diorama on flickr. The coaches are 115mm long. --Mike |

Thanks Mike. I asked the length of the coaches because they looked so well proportioned, not to see if they were protoypically correct. As for the loco not really being a Class 231, well.... whatever. It looks like a very nice machine. |

Mike, great photos! I have the original Orient Express set from Z, including the sleeper cars and the Piano car. I have to admit, I love the look of the new locomotive much better than the original! That paint scheme is very nice!

That's a great benefit of working in a small scale like Z. Making even long passenger cars to scale is not a problem. Over on the HO side, there's been much discussion recently about Marklin cars being 1:87, or 1:93 or 1:100 scale. No such problem with z-scale. |
