This is about the Marklin sets that come with a loco and wagons or coaches. It is not about starter sets or coach or wagon packs.
I have a soft spot for the train sets produced by Marklin. I like the way the locos and the wagons are often different from the ones obtainable seperately, and the themes are often quite interesting.
At the moment I have four full sets:
28501 RAG works train with DHG500 diesel 28508 Steam commuter set with Br086 and red rebuilt coaches 28524 DSB passenger train with NOHAB diesel 2702 (Primex) Tanker train with E44 in blue/cream.
Some of the sets produced in the past, like the Rheingold (26750/26751), or the Bavarian Royal Trains (2680 with the BVI or 2681 with the S10) are stunning models, but very expensive.
On the other hand, some of the cheaper sets are full of character and also very desirable. I like the sets that bring a Kof diesel and a couple of wagons(26524,26529,23545,26550), and there are some very nice sets with a Glaskasten and short train as well(28970-28973).
There are even some very interesting sets made under the Primex brand, like my 2702 set above. The nicest one of these is the Orient Express set, with a brown P8. These can be found on ebay but command high prices.
For this year, I've pre-ordered the branch line train with T3 loco, 26555. I hope it gets produced!
Does anyone else share my passion for these sets?

Nice! I like that Mallet, and the selection of wagons is great. The Swiss set is good too. I nearly got one of those once second hand, but the seller was asking a bit too much. |

I would have to say my favorite Set would have to be either the 26532 Ae 6/6 with flat cars with lumber loads or the 26534 with Re 4/4II and Lightsteel Coaches.
I also like the 28730 Crocodile Set. I added some FS freight cars to that set to make it a little more prototypical. It was actually quite rare to find a freight train on the Gotthard that had only Swiss cars. The slanted roof FS box cars are a perfect addition to this set.

For me it is the 2681 Kaiser Wilhelm set. That set is one of the reasons that I got into Marklin. I actually have two sets of coaches. The beutiful gold leaf detailing on the car roofs really sets it well against the royal blue and cream. I have to add the 10 year festival train. The lit flat car is pretty cool. |

The 37761 BR610 railcar. But maybe the 37730 LINT 41 has the potential to take over. Haven't been running it long enough to tell yet.

the 37730 Lint quickly became favourite. Most likely it is the only Marklin set I have as defined by Ray. Drives lovely, very smooth either fast or on speed step 1. n |

Set 26218 The 218 (I just realized) has more toys to play with (10 functions) compared to the standard spec 39180 (7 functions). It was great value too.
Set 26540 - the first TEE set with 282 mm passenger coaches. The E10.12 looks great in this livery.
I also like the Crocodile set. Saw it couple of times on eBay - but was too expensive for me. |
Now collecting C-Sine models. |

Even though I don't have one, and may never get one, I like the Cisalpino set produced last year for era V (26544), with electric loco and 3 coaches. You can even purchase an extra coach. regards Kimball

I like my California Zephyr 26600 for which I paid about 500 Euros one year ago by a friend. It´s the biggest train-packaging I´ve own. It´s a very nice train. (I hope it fits in the category). I also want a Lint-train. |

The train set that started it all for me (in my railroad modelling renaissance) was the 26531 Rollende Landstrasse. That and the starter set 29850 were my first two sets in 2000!
