Hello dear members, this is my first post here and I need some help with Marklin analog control.

I am building a small layout with the C track and I need both track power and power for some auxiliaries.

So, I have the 6647 trafo, bought second-hand, by the looks of it not used that much. Its problem is it works intermittently in low speeds and generally does not allow smooth and precise control and stopping.

As a comparison, same track, same loc and the basic Marklin Delta 67025. It is obvious it works way better and generally smoother even at lower speeds.

I did manage to open the 6647 when I bought it after reading through some info found here on the forums and online. I changed the brown wire on the picture (going from the regulator to the power supply). The improvement after was barely noticeable.

Does anyone have any suggestion or advice? Basically I prefer I single analog power supply that allows smooth operation. Or should I turn to digital?

Hello Christoff. Smile

I think - but it can of course be something else - that the difference you see,
is simply the difference between analog and digital control.

When driving slow in analog, you have a very low voltage; meaning that every little bit of dirt
or whatever can interrupt / reduce the current will have an effect on the loco.

When driving with a digital power supply, you always have full 18V voltage on the tracks, making it easier
for the current to run to the loco and back.

Cleaning your tracks and loco-wheels might improve your slow driving in analog a bit.

If you can dream it, you can do it!

Thank you, Purellum. I completely overlooked that the 67025 is actually a digital control! RollEyes
Anyways, cleaned the tracks and the loc wheels with isopropanol and a cotton bud. There is definitely an improvement in the control in lower speeds. The smoothness of operation though seems can never be matched with the digital one.

EDIT: As you can see on the picture in the headpost, there is a lot greasе on the coil, which seems to be coming like that from the factory. removing the grease improved operations a tiny bit as well.
