This year will open to the public one of the most beautiful layouts, San Giuliano in Florence, ItalyUserPostedImage
Layout has 300 m2 and very real is made
UserPostedImage
UserPostedImage
It has been raised to 2 meters from the ground so that the works from below are easily accessible
UserPostedImage
The main station is truly unique, deserves to be made in reality!
UserPostedImage
Before four years was recorded a longer movie train ride by almost the entire layout, it's worth it to look at peace!

A little more movie

Hi Iborna.

2 great videos but in the first video I noticed that several red signals were burned.

No doubt that the automated system has not been activated or is being assembled ?

You're right, then the layout management is not over yet, so everything is run manually.
In 2001, three friends started working on this layout, located in the former Ariston Cinema in Florence.
Their site is on net http://www.plasticosangiuliano.it/
UserPostedImageUserPostedImage
A few years ago it was rewritten in Marklin magazine

I got more pictures of this beautiful layout which unfortunately is not yet open to the general public. It was planned for this to happen in 2019 but the originator and initiator of the layout died before that.
The opening was postponed to last year but then there was a covid infection so everything was postponed for better times
UserPostedImage
This is how it started
UserPostedImageUserPostedImageUserPostedImageUserPostedImage
The entire layout is made at 180 cm in height to easily access the wiring from below

The night shot is especially impressive

In 2001, 3 old friends started making this fantastic layout in the small town of Scandicci in one big industrial hall
UserPostedImage
In 2016, they bought the former Ariston cinema in Florence with the intention of moving the layout there, and the renovation of the building began before that.
UserPostedImageUserPostedImage
In 2019, unfortunately, the main initiator died, then this unpleasant pandemic came, so we stopped everything.
Through a friend on Facebook who was on the team, I got a lot more photos that I will show in the following posts.

Once again, I go with the pictures I recently received from the very beginning to near the end a few years ago

This is the best way to see how big it is, you had to try it all and put it together!

What a nice layout.

I just love looking at videos/pictures of such large layout because even if the scale is beyond most of what we can do on our own, it is full of little ideas for scene that I can incorporate in my own layout (love the miniature wood train in the children playground)
I usually take screenshot of videos when I see something I like to incorporate latter or to be inspire with.

Thank you for bringing it up I had not seen it before.

Faller have one of these in their catalogue. Don't recall the number off hand, but it is part of a kit of items for a childrens playground.

Late last month the anlage San Giuliano was open for visits! One member of the 3rotaie.it forum posted more beautiful photos so I am uploading them here.

The whole layout is divided into 4 parts with different themes and you can go between them and look at them from all sides

In my dreams I would enjoy having this and running it ful time.
In my nightmares I would be told to paint all those preisers by hand.
This looks absolutely fantastic.

In order to make something big, valuable and beautiful, you first need to have a lot of money, then have a large space and finally time to do it. Some pay others to work for them.
Most of us get stuck at all these obstacles, so we settle for what we can do.

To me the fun of model railroading is to be able to say "Look what I build"
That is much better than "Look what I paid for"
I will do the best that I can and I will be happy with it.
Life is too short to be constantly fighting things that we cannot control anyway.
But we can keep on dreaming when we see those mighty lay-outs, which is also fun.

In Europe at least,it seems if you build it, they will visit. Here in the states, finding a team with the interest, funds, and skills to build is another thing. Most youngsters like trains, so parents will probably take them at least once to see the exhibit. Few and farther between here, but there are some amazing ones. One retired engineer is an O scale modeler, and set up shop in a former retail space. We have plenty of those vacant too. He has recreated the entire Ford motor company Rouge complex. Even the steel mill.
A local club has a large American layout in ho scale, and another an hour north has an O scale one in a former movie theater. It has a balcony, but was small and had a level seating floor.
