I just acquired a Marklin HO layout from Nextdoor. It's pretty old, but I'd like to get it running and upgrade it. Are there any good places to shop in the USA? I live near San Franciso, and the nearest hobby shops are 1-2 hours away (it used to be much better). I'd prefer to purchase from a brick-and-mortar store, so to keep them in business, but I'll go online if that's the only way. Right now, I'm looking for a 6646 transformer.

Marklin has an online list of dealers by state. Given your areas stature, there are a few around. However, the nearest to me is 300 miles away in Illinois. They are a bit over priced. I ordr often from AJC kids in Texas. Guy and Belle are very helpful. Prices very reasonable, and no sales tax outside Texas. They ship U.S.P.S. priority mail for smaller packages, and UPS for larger. I've had great luck. Same with Micro-Macro-Mundo in Miami Florida. Know the item number of what you want before searching their site, or it takes longer to find it. Eurorail hobbies in Langley British Columbia too, but shipping is higher from there. I miss the person to person interaction of a store also, but times have changed.

Hi Marc,
Sadly no shops nearby, but if you are local and need a transformer I know plenty of folks in the bay area who have a few of these piled up in the train room. Feel free to PM me and I can ask around. I may even have 1-2 myself

I too recommend AJC Kids in Texas. Guy and Belle are helpful and though it is mail order, they offer a friendly service that makes you feel like you are shopping in person. They also have suggestions of what else you may need to go with your purchase.

I highly recommend AC Euro Trains in Stockton, CA. Andrew is very helpful and answered all my questions.
