I run my Z Scale trains on a Noch Meran briefcase layout. Curious if other hobbyists use a briefcase layout for their Z Scale trains?

Yes, I have two. One is similar to yours in size (75x50 cm) and track plan but an earlier version called the Tessin. This makes an excellent test track with its gradients, reverse curve and pointwork (turnouts or switches depending on your local nomenclature). It is also good to quickly set up for a short running session and equally fast to put away again. The other is smaller at 53x40 cm and has only one convoluted circuit. This is an earlier version of the Noch ‘Serfaus’ and I rarely use it since I bought the larger one. What I would like is replacement plastic covers for the rolling stock shelves as both have disintegrated with time, I think I’ve had them for about five or six years but both were bought used from ebay so are older than that. Yours has the electronic speed control, mine are just analogue potentiometers and work well with all the Märklin locos but the one Rokuhan Class 181 I have is uncontrollable as it draws so little current. Every home should have at least one. ChrisG

Noch sells the entire train holder: black base, lid and elastic bands. Just contact your local Noch dealer. |

Hi Sadly I don't have one of these beauties. Noch sells complete finished layout in briefcase. The other one, smaller than yours ("Interlaken") is called "Serfaus" 57,5 x 43 cm, Another one is called "Meran" 79,5 x 54,5 cm So it seems a lot of quick fun but limited extensions. Perfect presentation to protect the layout from dust Apparently, Noch can provide the same layouts in snowy presentation Cheers Jean |
