A friend living in the northern suburbs of Chicago had some old Marklin. Much of it is from the sixties and seventies. The grandchildren are wanting to play with it. They have managed to get some locomotives to work. Others are described as dead. I suspect cleaning, and new brushes might do the trick, but cannot do much at long range and with the border closed. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in the area that could looks at these items and hopefully get them working.
Thank you D

The best folks for this would be a mail-in proposition. South Side trains in Milwaukee might do basic Marklin repair, but I forget. They are the best shop north of chicago for sure. |

Thank you D Hi, I suggest they try http://www.rjftrains.com/ in Katonah, NY as being the closest dealer i can think of.

For the Chicago area, the first place I would try is Reynaulds in Ellburn IL. After that, you can try Scott at Helmut's Hobby in VA if he is still taking on work. You can also check Marklin.com to find a list of dealers and see if there are any who can make repairs.
You can also check with Mike at Westend in Toronto. If you send outside of USA, make sure that you label the parcels as goods sent for repair to avoid tax and fees on export/import

I just saw that South Side Trains (in the Milwaukee WI area) no longer have their regular repair person so it might not be an option.
Reynaulds I would think as well. I’ve never used them as a repair center though so no experience.
If you reach out the the Wisconsin chapter of the ete (ete.org) one of their members does/did repairs (but it’s been two years since I spoke to anyone in the group so who knows!).

Take a look at:
marklinrepairs.com
It's mail-in but it might be worth sending them to someone who knows the products.

If going the mail-in route, I second the option above |

Thank you to everyone. I have forwarded the suggestions. I should have thought of Mike Sorge at Westend Trains in Toronto. He has always been excellent both as a dealer and for repairs. He has sent items to the States with no problems. Thank you to all D

Rick Sinclair is hardly a "private guy" if it is the same Rick Sinclair who works for Marklin USA as one of their digital expert/consultants.

Indeed, I just got an e-mail reply for a repair estimate from Rick. Are code 951 is Riverside county, or San Bernardino Ca. I knew Curtis lives in Ca., but not Rick. Marklin is in Jefferson city Mo. Perhaps he works remotely.

I read a reply suggesting Tim Eckert. I wouldn't refer him for repairs unfortunately and you can PM me if you want to know why. His Ebay store might still be available for parts.

Just saw this post again. I am about 2 hours south of Chicago. If they want I can take a look at them. If it is a simple cleaning, broken connection or something basic that wouldn't be a big deal to fix. If they are still looking for help send me a message.

The decision was made. She decided that her local post office was the closest, and easiest. She mailed them to me, and I have them in at Mike Sorge's. Thank you all for your suggestions. Problem solved.
