Hopefully, the message on the wagons will be more clear than the message in the message.

Somehow typical for modern advertising: you don't get the slightest idea what it is about. But of course the creators of the stuff have "earned" a lot of money.

I think I’ve found the answer, it’s I believe a paint job given to a train loaded container train, looking at climate change and a shift of freight to rail. It toured all over Europe. Edited by user 22 June 2021 14:22:36(UTC)

Hmmmm...well Mother M has done art series in the past (I have the Gauguin and the Van Gogh): https://zweiligrafix.ch/kunst-auf-m%C3%A4rklin ...and, of course, the graffiti trains/wagons, some limited edition, some not. and then there is the (I do hesitate, actually scared to mention) line between graffiti as art and graffiti as vandalism (sorry, but the video got me thinking along this line) I wonder what the harvest will be this time... |

Yep, it's a way of selling more model railway product when the delivery times are already well stretched ...

I’m a little bit annoyed with Marklin for producing items simply for collectors. But if you like art, it’s for you. If not something else from there past or already advertised for new this year. Personally I think they would get better turnover from selling realistic paint schemes on existing models. |

A special email from Märklin has arrived in my inbox, and the first artist featured is a Mr Haring. I do like art but I have never heard of Mr Haring. So why would I buy it?

I don't understand why Märklin receives so much flak for this niche product. Come on; It´s a very simple-to-produce product which will hopefully help increase revenue and might even -marginally- make the product and brand known to people outside of the traditional MRR circles.
My guess is that this will hardly impact the production-lines or I+D departments, as they already existing standard products (a box wagon and a section of straight track). Any increased sales can then hopefully help to produce more realistic paint schemes for the more traditional trains.
Dissing the product because the featured artist is unknown to some is really NOT a good excuse. Just Google him and get informed. It takes less than 2 minuttes. -You might find that you have actually seen his art before, but never realized who made it. Well guess what; there is (was) a real person behind it! ;-) |

And as single items. |

No indication as far as I can see of what the price might be. Fairly simple livery though it does come with fancy packing.

Yes it is simple to produce as it is 'just a livery job' on an existing wagon, but hang on, I'm still waiting for items from the 2020 new items brochure from 18 months ago - and they are livery changes of existing models. I see it as not good news to be introducing such items when the factory backlog is already very long. Originally Posted by: hxmiesa and might even -marginally- make the product and brand known to people outside of the traditional MRR circles.
Well, Marklin is already very well known in most of Europe. Unless the artists have a very well known international profile (and this one doesn't seem to be from the "Who?" questions on this thread) I don't see this as a selling point. And are these people going to buy other Marklin MRR items? Well, the production lines are already impacted to the tune of at least 18 months delay on at least two wagon sets that I have on backorder. So how long is the backorder for these wagons going to be? While I appreciate that the production planning for this series of models will have been going on for quite some time, probably started before Covid stopped everything, I do feel the announcement of these could have waited until the current production backlog was somewhat more caught up.

The other point about these Massage wagons is that Märklin will be paying a royalty to the artists and/or their managers. I guess this is a negotiated thing.
So the idea for these "presentation" products must have sprung from where: Do the Märklin owners have a particular liking for, or are they collectors of art? Do they wish to support art and artists? Or did this spring from the marketing department.
Which makes me think outside the square and ask the question whether Märklin could team up with perfumeries and produce articles with a double purpose. If I buy perfume for myself and also my wife, I can collect the special wagons and the accompanying bottle of perfume gets used. The possibilities for matching collector product and consumable is endless.

Kimball Here in the UK, the firm Rails of Shefield is doing just that, producing wagons with a Yorkshire connection. With one came a small bottle of sauce and with another a packet of sweets. Bob M.

Oh no, not more glass tankers to collect ... marklin have already done things like this, there are three sets of wine barrel cars supplied with a pair of wine glasses (but no bottle of plonk), IIRC there was a VT95 railbus with Jagermeister advertising supplied with a miniature bottle, or was it a glass, I have a marklin days wagon that advertises a vineyard that is local to Goeppingen and has a miniature bottle, again no contents.

(-or maybe they still do, I don't know) No too long ago, some new user here on the forum asked for details about a 1-scale set in her possession. A factory made famous perfume-name branded set. Ideal for a shopping window or like display. If I could only remember the brand-name, it would be easy to search for here in the forum... |

If here are any GB Insider Club members for whom this Haring item is not their cup of tea, let me know and I should like to purchase. My daughter in better times travelled the world as an airline employee and spent a lot of airside downtime following street art not sure where she got a whiff of this but has been nagging me to explore further. I am not an insider member and cant really afford to be. Of course it may not sell to devout Marklinisatas and may appear on eBay later on at reasonable prices. Many Thanks

Well, I have bought one! (Bit of a gulp over the price . . .)
I was able to put my UK address, and the order was processed without delay or trouble. Reasonable carriage charge, less than the normal price for the Märklin Store.

Soooo, about the same as a Museum Wagon then, but they tend to come with an additional road vehicle (or other accessory, this year a knife) at that price. many of them are pretty simple livery jobs as well. However it looks like these come in a fancy printed box with certificate, and I guess a fee for use of the artists artwork instead. I haven't seen any indication of how often they intend to offer one of these, once a year, once a quarter, once a month ???

Hmm, investigating the home page of these items, it seems "some assembly required" might be the order of the day ... Included items list says: - Included items: 1 printed freight car 1 presentation track 1 certificate 1 artist biography brake shoes & brake hoses Does this mean you have to fit the brake shoes yourself? I imagine the brake hoses are like the additional items that come with locos and don't get fitted because they would interfere with the couplings and adjacent wagons, but brake shoes ???

in re Alan's note about the brake shoes and brake hoses, I wonder if that note on the HO version is a victim of "cut & paste"? I might see it on the gauge 1 as those do look somewhat more fragile and might get banged about in shipment...but on the HO? Weird, nonetheless We shall see what we shall see. Looking forward to reviews. |
