I learned that just a few years into the production of Marklin Z scale trains the company switched from "Kupplung 1 A to Kupplung 1 B". Coupling 1 A has no chamfer and Coupling 1 B does. Helpful for dating very early locos BTW. So, why did Marklin change the Clutch design? An improvement no doubt, but do the old ones get the job done? Do they play well together? I've had no trouble so far.
My different translators gave coupling or clutch for kupplung so that's just a bit of fun...

Well, a recent Trainini newsletter showed it was to stop the coupling colliding with the buffers on a curve.

The term Kupplung is used for both the clutch in cars and the couplers on trains. Difficult for automatic translators to get the correct context. I guess coupling is usually translated as Kopplung in German, but a Kupplung is used to achieve the Kopplung. |
