I recently purchased this loco for a dealer in Germany. The body had ahd the paint poorly touched up which greatly decreased its value. That's just what I was looking for as I wanted to redo it to the earlier DRG gray paint scheme. I had to order 2 new pantographs and brown insulators to complete it. I think it came out rather well. Let me know what you think.

Hi Chuck
You did an excellent job with the Photo color ("Foto Anstrich"). It is really great

He is my 3011 , a SET800 really dating from 1956 with the first large pre-decoupling and behind the catalogue page of that year.
This is the fatory state (but with usage)

Fantastic! What brand of paint/primer did you use? And airbrush or spray? I'm a huge fan

I use Sanyo Gunze Mr Color lacquer based paint. I have it available because I use it for scale modeling. (my other passion/hobby) I applied it with an Iwata HP C+ and the smaller details were hand painted. The gray was a mix I made and the other colors were stock colors.

Thanks! Everyone swears by Mr. Color. I took a stab at a restoration with Vallejo last year (exact RAL paint match, so it was the obvious first attempt), and it ended in tears on marklin litho steel (346) coaches.

Good to know the Mr. Color can be an option for success, although of course loco bodies are a different (and cast) material...

Chuck - The gray paint scheme looks great! None of my SE800's or 3011's are poor enough cosmetically to justify a repaint, but if I find a trashed shell for either I think I'll follow your example Great work!

Another way is to watch eBay etc for a Primex 2702 tanker train. There are two versions, one with blue body and cream noses, and the less common other with grey body.

here is a picture from a current ebay item with the blue & cream version loco. The grey loco version has an identical set of tankers.

The loco you refer to is the one I had in mind when I decided to repaint this loco. Being a Primex collector, I been trying to find the grey version but they rather rare and the last one I saw was on German Ebay and the seller didn't ship to the USA. Cursing
