I bought a Marklin start up for my son for Christmas, which renewed my interest in MRR.

I wanted to upgrade the trains and purchased a used digital locomotive (3650) from a reputable US dealer.

I reset the address on the engine decoder to one of the addresses on start-up controller. The catenary is switched to track mode.

The only sign of life is a faint humming.

The engine that came with the original Marklin set works fine.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Maybe the famous HOS and a loco needing TLC.

HOS: Hardened-oil syndrome: Märklin oil from the '90s is an efficient motor glue by now. Clean the loco and oil sparingly (AKA TLC).
