Back in the mid-70s, my friend Darko started making a larger layout in the basement
UserPostedImage
This is how it started with a size of 500 x 200 cm
UserPostedImage
Later a station was added above the back which then became hidden
UserPostedImage
2012 his cousin ing.Makanec invited me to help him enable the layout because for the last 5 years there was no one to drive it (I'm left)
UserPostedImage
A young friend also helped us because the whole track needed to be cleaned well
UserPostedImage
The layout, meanwhile, spread to the other side of the room
UserPostedImage
and eventually through the wall the railroad ended up in another room
UserPostedImage

My friend Darko has had problems with being overweight all his life so he has been almost immobile for the last 10 years
UserPostedImage
Last year he came to his last station ...

looks like 45 years of train fun for him. I hope it made his life better.

Darko was visited and helped by several friends in making the layout, some of them are also no longer alive

I will try to conjure up a layout with more photos

Thank you!
Some modelers resented it for being a large marshalling yard with too little relief but it was his choice. Someone else could make one big city with a little track around or a big mountain massif, after all our layouts are thank God different!

In the middle is a small circle of Faller AMS cars
UserPostedImageUserPostedImage
There is also a train parking space
UserPostedImage
The station is only with platforms, the building is located more to the left in the middle
UserPostedImageUserPostedImage
Upstairs is a smaller station

Hi, I can see that these pictures are from 2012 / 2013 we are now in 2021. What happend to the layout ? Is it stil working and people enjoy it or it is a massive piece of rust since the owner isn't around anymore ? Thank you

Unfortunately it all ended sadly!
Due to his real estate, Darko could not enter the basement, which was not his property. Since the real owner intended to sell the entire basement I had to dismantle everything before a few years and Darko died late last year.
UserPostedImage
First I removed the part that goes along the wall to the other room and then everything in another room

Life is short. Make each day count! We take nothing with us. Every posession is a borrowed item. Care for them, and leave them to others who will appreciate them.

The control was analog from the beginning, and later the possibility of dialing for digital was added
UserPostedImage
The power supply went by rail or catenary, each could be different
UserPostedImage
Control of signals, switches and others was the only analog, this is an earlier performance
UserPostedImage
Later performance with a better keyboard
UserPostedImage
UserPostedImage
There was also an overflow field (blue) on which it was chosen which would initiate some contact on the track (initially the counter-rails which were later replaced by reed)
UserPostedImage
The control panel for the layout in the other room was made much later

A little display of technique, the place where the wires came and connected to the counter

Initially, old relays from the telephone exchange were used, later newer ones came

In the beginning, everything was neatly wired, later a little mess was made by adding it
