Hope that you and your familiy are keeping safe.
I'm undecided between these two locomtives, I had the 3003 and it was magical.
One person on Stummi defines the 36244 as Chinese non Marklin engine, some others that it has traction problems, albeit with the change of traction tyres it improves a lot.
Can't see, from internet photos, which one of the two looks better, but I think it is the 36241.
The 36241 I've seen on ebay has a digital decoder, not delta the seller told me and about importing to UK the seller says that ebay deals with expenses. To be believed ?
The 36244 has mfx + sound.
The 36241 costs 60 GBP less and in all honestly I'm not too bothered about the sounds.
I kind of miss two things at present, the layout and the BR 24.
Although at the moment all I can do is let it run on the roller stand in case I buy it.
I could buy a 3003 and digitise it myself but, my eyesight is not as good as it was 20 years ago and frankly by the time I get all the ancillary equipment for the conversion I will have spent the same maount.
So question is has any of you got either of these locomotives ?
Thank you

My Märklin 36243 came with "Made in China" on the box. I assume that all the new BR 24 from the 3624x range are made in China, but haven't seen "Made in ..." on any of the others.

36241 and 36244 are made from the same moulds and have the same detailing. One difference is sound. Another difference is that the smoke generator is always on with the former, but digitally controlled with the later.
You just have to resolder one wire with the 36241 to make the smoke generator digitally controlled.

I'm not sure if recent versions with mfx run better than the early versions with just fx. You have more speed steps with mfx at least.

The 3003 comes from a different mould with fewer details.
Regards
Tom

Sorry, no I haven't bought a new steamer since 2001. My eye sight is also weaker. I have reading glasses and use led opt I visors for close work. They were about $30 US on Amazon. Have 6 lenses, and extra head band.
Take 3 AAA batteries. The spotlight angle pivots.so does the Lenz. I have yet to attempt a decoder retrofit myself.
If you have a CS3, and would like to virtually drive the loc., several 3700 series, and all 3900 s. Are mfx+ and have this world of operation feature.
Or, you can install an mfx decoder yourself, or have a shop do it. I got a 36183 br 193 Vectron last fall. Made in Hungary, not China. It is lighter than older models, but really nice. Has several sound functions and pulls heavy load no problem. I added some liquid polymer to one extra wheel for better tractive effort. only deficit is dimmer headlights than a 3900 series. No high beams.
Best wishes, happy railroading!

Some locos are even "Made in Germany". But that does not matter as this question is about the BR 24.

The 3900 series denotes analogue locos, the 3700 series are digital locos long before mfx.
Some locos from the 39000 series and some locos from the 37000 series are mfx+. Check the specs if you're after mfx+.

The locos from the 36000 series mark the entry level, but are all digital. Not all have mfx.
The wonderful world of Märklin: Some 2021 new items from the 36000 series are mfx+, while some from the 39000 series are just mfx. So don't look at the numbers, check the specs.

AIUI the "World of Operation" nowadays works with all digital locos and is no longer limited to mfx+.

I have seen that Marklin has made other BR24 over the years: 36241, 36242, 36243
But the price difference between a silent model and the soundy one pushes me towards a full optional soundy one.

There also is 36249 with a four-axle tender.
Otherwise you can choose between small and large smoke deflectors.

Decided towards 36244 and ordered it on Amazon. I did a bit of price comparison on eBay, at the end of the day adding shipping costs and Brexit extra tax worries Amazon seemd the best option. It should be here on the 15th.
I'll report back on the behaviour of the model then. Thank you for all your input. Have a nice day

UPDATE: cancelled order. Who am I kidding? The loco would have been placed on the roller stand, tested and then put away in its box for quite some time. Pointless buy this moment in time. Sorry for the 'noise' but thank you for your support.
